We're looking for the youngest man who have fought - successfully or unsuccessfully - for world titles, recognized by BoxRec, in 2 different divisions.

Tony Canzoneri? He had fought for the bantamweight and featherweight titles at 18 years of age.

Benitez was 20 years, 4 months when he moved up and had his first title fight at welterweight.

But we are looking for someone even younger.

Tony Canzoneri was only 18 in 1927.
    Marvin Sonsona was 19

    GreatA and hhascup:

According to BoxRec Canzoneri was born Nov. 6, 1908.

He had his first title fight at featherweight on Oct. 24, 1927.

This would make him 13 days shy of his 19th birthday, when he fought Dundee - or is the info regarding the date of his birth incorrect?

It would still mean that he was 18 years old.

No, he was 18 not 17. I was up all night working on something, so I'm not awake yet. I made the correction.

So would I, I just want to make certain, that he wasn't 17 as hh said. Because then he would of course be the correct answer to this question by a considerable margin.

At 13 days short of his 19th birthday, he is NOT the correct answer (but he is VERY close!)

I was almost certain that Canzoneri was it. :patsch

I'll have to think about it some more. Very surprised that there was someone even younger.

    CLUE:
You will already have figured out, that our man never was a champion.

He's not what you would call a well-known fighter... even though he challenged twice for world titles. The first time he was only 17 years, 7 months... and the second time, in another division, he challenged a fellow-countryman 23 days before his 19th birthday.

Even if we're counting versions of world titles not recognized by BoxRec, Arizmendi was 19 years, 7 months when he had his first "world" title fight. So he is not our man.

We're looking for someone much less well-known than Arizmendi (who, after all, is a HOFer!). And I mean MUCH less!

CLUE: Our man was born after 1950.

I thought this was a very tough one, so I was a bit afraid no one would get it. But you nailed it!

    Great Job!
