First 15 to come to mind: Dwight Muhammad Qawi Pernell Whitaker Guillermo Rigondeaux James Toney Roy Jones Floyd Mayweather Jr. Edwin Rosario Vasyl Lomachenko Hector Camacho Orlando Canizales Alberto Davila Willie Pep Evander Holyfield Sugar Ray Leonard Andre Ward
Great pick Boza Edwards, don't know how I didn't pick him. Problem is who makes room for him on my list.
Could never order them numerically, virtually impossible. So I'll go alphabetically instead. Alexis Arguello Frank Bruno Nonito Donaire Roberto Duran Jeff Fenech Victor Galindez Harold Johnson Marvin Johnson Mike McCallum Juan Manuel Marquez Jose Napoles Terry Norris Salvador Sanchez James Toney Pernell Whitaker
It’s tough picking 15, I’d probably find it easier picking 5 ! I ended up going for 2 fighters from my hometown ( Sibson & Pyatt ). l saw them perform live & met ‘Sibbo’ (he had a huge following wherever he fought). The rest are mainly from that superb 80’s period when I was a teenager. Some are, in my opinion, good British fighters who created such a superb atmosphere whenever they boxed.
I bet I must have come up with some different boxers every time one of these lists come up. So as of this current listing in no particular order. Marvin Hagler Julio Cesar Chavez Evander Holyfield Mike Tyson Ray Leonard Naoya Inoue Thomas Hearns Joe Frazier Larry Holmes Roy Jones Jr. Michael Nunn Alexis Arguello Manny Pacquiao Meldrick Taylor Don Curry
01 - Charley Burley 02 - Sam Langford 03 - Juan Manuel Marquez 04 - Roman Gonzalez 05 - Rafael Herrera 06 - Tyson Fury 07 - Holman Williams 08 - Joe Gans 09 - Joe Louis 10 - Joe Frazier 11 - Ruben Olivares 12 - Oleksander Usyk 13 - Naoya Inoue 14 - Miguel Berchelt 15 - Israel Vazquez
It’s bizarre that hardly anyone, myself included, has picked Joshua or Fury, even though they get so many different threads & so much airtime !
To be fair he was Welsh, strictly speaking. Assume you mean Alan Rudkin. I know you're a Manc and this might grate but as well as having the best bands, actors, football history and fans (arguably), Liverpool might be England's premier boxing city. Conteh, Hoko, Tarleton, Roderick, Rudkin, Bellew. Off the top of my head, it has had a fair few top fighters. It does seem to do so much so well. Sorry.
In no particular order: Frazier Qawi Louis Ali Foreman Mosley Pryor Quarry Leonard Chavez Sr Duran Hearns Jones Norris Barkley Honourable mentions: Tyson, Holyfield, Marciano, Hagler, Patterson, Liston
I was actually willing to take your word on that he was Welsh. I meant you were wrong about Liverpool being the premier standard for football and boxing.
He was born in North Wales due to me Nan being evacuated there with the Blitz. I have heard him say though, he'd fight any man in the house who said he wasn't a Scouser
