I am humbled by your words, Morlocks I enjoyed imagining what kind of hyperviolence those rules would bring on the fights as well. I hate it when fights are prematurely stopped, whether it be because of a DQ, a cut or a couple knockdowns. Let a champion go out on his shield. Edit: I especially enjoyed imagining what Battling Nelson would do to "pretty boy" Floyd in those rough conditions, considering Mayweather usually just whines until all of the rules go his way

Those Duran fights would've been epic. Can;t believe I didnt get Armstrong in...considering he's one of my favs LOL! Sanchez vs Arguello a buffet here. Boxing, brawling, inside game outside. Watching the crouching Qawi & Moorer, I think Archie is a bit smarter, edges him out in an ebb n flow battle. And who doesn't want to see Dempsey vs. Marciano!?!? Jung Koo Chang is mentioned twice here, must be a favorite of yours? His style? Freddie Steel vs Micky Walker-- what does this fight look like from your perspective. Can't say I've seen much if any of these two, just articles.
Yeah, to be honest there is way more than 25 to mention IMO! Jung Koo Chang is one of my favourites. He was the dominant light Fly champ in the 80s. An extremely dynamic swarmer, with exceptional talent and instincts, who could also box offbeat on the back foot. A bit like young Duran. There's Been plenty of threads on him. Look them up if you wanna learn about him. There's plenty of film aswell. Best ever at 108 IMO. As for Walker vs Steele, I have described it before, and similar with Lamotta etc, so I won't write too much. Steele, even for such a great, classical boxer and mover, seemed to struggle stylistically against (really) skilled crouching fighters ala Apostoli (though he was past prime and injured) . The definition of Walker. However, Steele would also move around and counter him brilliantly, and was as tough as they come. Peak for peak, I choose Steele. But its one of those bouts where Walker wins atleast one in a series IMO.
There's an entire thread on it, with a few gems in it although finding them is virtually impossible due to the rest of **** that went on in there. A bump might cause some decent discussion actually
As much as I enjoy the idea of fantasy matchups between fighters from different eras, I'm always more intrigued by fights that could have happened but didn't so I'm limiting my 25 to those. And I make no apology for the heavy slanting towards the 90s (the era I grew up and fell in love with boxing)! My top 25 fights that could have happened but didn't: -Charley Burley v Eddie Booker, Middleweight (1943) -Sugar Ray Robinson v Charley Burley, Welterweight/Middleweight (1943-46) -Jake LaMotta v Rocky Graziano, Middleweight (1945-47) -Archie Moore v Sugar Ray Robinson, light heavyweight (1952/53) -Rocky Marciano v Floyd Patterson, Heavyweight (1956) -Flash Elorde v Vicente Saldivar, jnr lightweight (1965/66) -Roberto Duran v Antonio Cervantes, Jnr Welterweight (1975) -Pipino Cuevas v Carlos Palomino, welterweight (1977/78) -Roberto Duran v Alexis Arguello, Lightweight (1978) -Danny Lopez v Wilfredo Gomez, Featherweight (1979) -Lupe Pintor v Jeff Chandler, Bantamweight (1982) -Salvador Sanchez v Eusebio Pedroza, Featherweight (1982/83) -Thomas Hearns v Mike McCallum, jnr middleweight (1985/86) -Julio Cesar Chavez v Azumah Nelson, jnr lightweight (1987) -James Toney v Julian Jackson, Middleweight (1992) -Lennox Lewis-Riddick Bowe, Heavyweight (1993) -Michael Carbajal v Ricardo Lopez, jnr flyweight (1993/94) -Chiquita Gonzalez v Ricardo Lopez, jnr flyweight (1993/94) -Roy Jones v Gerald McClellan, super middleweight (1995/96) -Felix Trinidad v Terry Norris, jnr middleweight (1996) -Oscar De La Hoya v Kostya Tszyu, jnr welterweight (1996/97) -Felix Trinidad v Ike Quartey, welterweight (1995-98) -Yuri Arbachakov v Mark Johnson, flyweight (1995) -Johnny Tapia v Mark Johnson, jnr bantamweight (1998) -Roy Jones v Darius Michalczewski (1998/99) A few bonus fights that did happen but not at the perfect time: -Matthew Saad Muhammad v Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, light heavyweight (1981) -Marvin Hagler v Sugar Ray Leonard, Middleweight (1983) -Julio Cesar Chavez v Hector Camacho, junior lightweight (1985) -Mike Tyson v Evander Holyfield, Heavyweight (1991) -Roy Jones v Bernard Hopkins, light heavyweight (2002) -Manny Pacquiao v Floyd Mayweather, welterweight (2010)
Oh bollocks, I left off Mancini-Pryor (1984). They were probably both past their primes by that point, but who cares - would have been tremendous!
