Really dont know. McGrain might know a bit more.

Think its lack of quality opposition, but then again he never fought A class names to start with. That and theres no real natural rival to him now, like he had in Joyi, since Segura got beat and moved up.

Been a fan of him for a while, I find him the most watchable Heavyweight champion, him and Joe Frazier. Obviously Ali and Louis and that I really like watching them but Holmes fights are always really good.

But Ezzard is my favrouite Heavyweight champ.

He is so good, love watching that fight with Sorimachi. I think I may have another full fight (or at least extended highlights) of him but will have to check. Just mined about it just now actually.

    Get tae ****.

I don't know of a book mon Nelson, but if it does not exist, it is long overdue. Adam Pollack is wasted on the heavyweights.

    So to explain my choices.

Bat Nelson was simply the toughest fighter that has ever existed (in any weight class). Part of me is glad that he is a thing of the past, because the means by which he won were so brutal to himself.

Newsboy Brown a fascinating boxing human interest story, that got my attention. That combined with an incredible record against hall of famers, that never quite saw him the lineal champion, due to the mess left in the division after Fidel La Barba retired.

"I hit Battling Nelson so hard the jar hurt my own shoulders, but to no avail. I might as well have been pounding a stone wall as he paid no attention to the punches, but kept wading in. The stoutest heart will get discouraged when battling with such an opponent."

    --Martin Canole

(this quote should be in the preface of any book written on Bat Nelson, imo).

That was my pick until I realised I couldn't squash Toney in anywhere else.
