Who are some of your favourite boxers based on their personality outside the ring alone?

Some of mine are Ezzard Charles, Floyd Patterson, Alexis Arguello and Willie Pep

Ali. In personality he had no peer, in ANY sport!

Floyd Patterson is an interesting pick. He was a very nice man but rather tormented - a lot of neuroses.

I like fighters who are also fighters, so I like Michael Watson and Eddie Machen, for example. Survivor types.

I've also a soft spot for Erik Morales. "Did you like that?" after that Pacquiao victory is such a classy line...and he wasn't in love with the alphabets.

Hagler. In love with money but he never shirked on giving up the agreed number to the Petros which speaks for him. Charley Burley. How he avoided becoming bitter in later life, especially, I have no idea, but all the evidence is that he really didn't.

I don’t really care about celebrities, sports or otherwise outside of their particular arena. Not sure I can even come up with one? Probably just the guys who embodied Philadelphia culture and were fixtures of the city.

All great choices. Nicely done, lads, especially when you consider the character of men like Marvin Hagler. But when it comes to just pure personality outside the ring, my 2 favorites would be Muhammad Ali (obviously) and Tex Cobb who was as funny as the come.

Muhammad Ali by a wide margin, and then Jack Johnson.

I really like modern day Mike Tyson, and Tyson Fury.

Mick Alldis; the only decent or better boxer I knew personally, thus I could make such a judgement.

Hagler for sure; I also like Mike Tyson's sense of history for the game, and could see having a lot of fun kibitzing with him about that. Arguello too...….when I want to have a few beers I'd call up Olivares and not understand anything he says. But I'd be drinking beer, so who cares.

Ezzard Charles has a personality? I thought people used to compare Holyfield to him because they looked alike and both had dull as dishwater personalities outside the ring?
