I think, he is a good example for a great sportsman, who had mastered his life.

Muhammad Ali / Jack Johnson / Archie Moore
    - inspiring personalities

Marvin Hagler / Vitali Klitschko / Rocky Marciano
    - determination and fighting spirit

    Evander Holyfield
    - fearless warrior

    Gene Tunney / Lennox Lewis
    - smartness

    George Foreman
    - awesome guy, changed his life after the Jimmy Young fight

    Ron Lyle
    - toughness

    Joe Louis
    - sense of duty

    Jack Dempsey
    - autodidact

    Jersey Joe Walcott
    - solid

And I like: Rocky Graziano, Mikkel Kessler, Karl Mildenberger..

I would add George Chuvalo and Joe Frazier under fighting spirit and toughness as well.

I think most fighters, if you got to know them, would be quite colourful characters outside the ring in some way or another.

Alexis Arguello... pure class. A true gentleman. A caring man.

James 'Quick' Tillis... a real-life cowboy. It wasn't a gimmick.

Randall 'Tex' Cobb... a straight-talking, no BS guy. Great sense of humour.

Ricardo Mayorga/Roberto Duran/James Toney...tough-talking, larger-than-life street guys who said exactly what they were thinking. No fakery here.

Tommy Hearns... another gentleman, who never forgot his roots. Worked on gearboxes in his spare time, even as champ.

Manny Pacquiao... I think it's obvious why. Class act.

Joe Louis... Quiet and dignified, but also a fighter with lots of little personality quirks. Had surprising wit.

Rocky Marciano... a soft-spoken, intelligent man who comes across quite the opposite of what you'd expect. Another with amusing character quirks, usually money related.

Mike Tyson... from crazy manic depressive to master Yoda. Volumes have been written, and the story isn't over yet.

Just a few off the top of my head.

I’d be careful about calling Pacquiao a class act. The guy cheated on his wife, claimed he didn’t know what steroids were, allied with Duarte, and publicly compared homosexual sex to having sex with animals. Mixed bag is more like it.

Actually, you're right. I guess 'mixed bag' would be a better way of saying it.
Just note though that the view on homosexuality in Asia is very different from that in the West.

I don't know too much about his personality, but the fact Betulio Gonzalez declined being recognized as the World Champ because he didn't win it in the ring makes him cool as ****, in my opinion.
