Heh...no doubt. Found myself nodding my head every other post or so here. My record’s pretty solid since I started really following the sport as a die hard. But it’s the handful of losses that you remember. Those are the ones that haunt you. In this thread alone I wonder what the hell I was thinking before Tarver-Jones 2 and Wright-Trinidad.
Picked B- Hop to beat Tito . Picked KT to beat Zab. Picked Forrest to beat Mosley. Picked Winky to beat Mosley.
Going to see Whitesnake in May, I've seen Purple a lot of times first on the Purpendicular tour in 96. I had tickets to see them on the Slaves and Master's tour in 91, but they canceled. My wife got us backstage for 2 shows in 2004. Anyway, last September got to see Glenn Hughes for the first time and he was incredible! Fantastic bass player and that voice omg. I've seen Gillan, Coverdale, Dio but Glenn was better than them all. Played all mark 3 and 4 stuff plus Highway Star and Smoke on the Water. I'm hoping he comes back to NEPA.
You are super lucky! I love all of those singers, plus do you remember Graham Bonnet? He did a seriously good album with Michael Schenker called Assault Attack (you might remember Michael from UFO). We are SO off topic I feel I owe everybody a big apology.
I picked Tyson over Holyfield I, but I'm not sure what the odds were for that fight. I was pretty shocked at the time to see Holyfield stop Mike at the time, but then I really didn't know much about Evander (besides his victory over Buster). Up to that first fight I just assumed Mike had an off night with Buster and would roll right over Holyfield.
I love Graham Bonnet, Down to Earth is my second favorite Rainbow album after Rising. I've never seen him live though. When I saw Yngwie Malmsteen about 15 years ago he had Doogie White singing for him, who sang on Stranger in Us All. Of course Malmsteen did a couple Blackmore songs, Demon's Eye and Gates of Babylon.
GH, this is creepy, as DTE is my 2nd favorite Rainbow as well. I never cared much for Malmsteen beyond his stuff with Alcatrazz (he always sounded like a sped up Uli Roth to me)...I'm way more into Blackmore, Uli, Iommi, Townshend. If you like Bonnet there was a rock opera he was part of back in the late 00's (the name escapes me). It was the last time he sounded really good, and a couple of the songs harken back to Rainbow and MSG. Sorry I can't think of it...part of the reason it escapes me is because the concept was a children's story I think. Anyway, it was definitely worth a listen if you like the bands we've mentioned.
Do you mean the Butterfly Ball that was written by Roger Glover? That was both an album and it was filmed live at the Royal Albert Hall in October 1975. The movie has the musicians performing interspersed with cartoons of the various animals in the story along with Twiggy and some people dressed in ridiculous costumes. It had an all star cast as well. Vincent Price was the Narrator, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Ian Gillan's first appearance live since he left Purple in 1973, John Lawton, among many others.
Not that one, though I do love Ronnie JD on Love is All. I found a link to one of the Bonnet songs on the album, you have to sit through a short orchestral prelude but the actual song brings back memories of the Dio era Rainbow and Graham sounds pretty damn good imo. This content is protected
I generally do not favor extreme underdogs. I think the most extreme underdog I picked was Tarver in his second fight against Jones. Also, are we talking Vegas "underdog" or underdogs among true boxing experts? For instance, Hopkins may have been an underdog v. Tito in Vegas, but I'd suspect the knowledgeable boxing experts probably picked him over Tito.
I got to see the Michael Schenker band back in the 80’s....UFO I remember and “only you can rock me” was one of my favorite songs in HS. I was also a big David Coverdale fan back in the day. Dio and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow weee among 2 of my favorite concerts from that era as well. Now I am partial to Jam Bands (Greatful Dead, Gov’t Mule, Phish etc) and the blues....Oh well back to boxing
This is awesome! I so wish I could have seen Michael back in the day...but seeing Ronnie and Ritchie is priceless my friend. I think everybody has evolving tastes. These days I mostly listen to film scores, but I still own and love my old classic metal and rock cds. Try breaking out a couple sometime and enjoy the happy nostalgia!
