Same here...I boxed as a kid... my record was 14-2 (8 Ko's)...I lost once...lost the rematch and was really depressed about the whole thing. Never picked up the gloves since. But everytime I watch a fight. Everytime i hear a big name. I just think back about the thrill of the kill. The adrenaline. Going toe to toe telling the world "I Am"... the worst nostalgia...bittersweet...been contemplating starting over again considering how close i live to roach's gym.
never did boxing but always a fan and wish i switched codes. i was british karate champion in 1993,bust my arm up in rugby and did not defend it. i have fanatastic hand speed and power and should have been a boxer instead. 31 now so a bit late to start.
I've been to my local gym a few times over the past 7 years (I'm 37 now). When I turned 30 I went to various gyms to see what was available for me to train, most of the trainers said I should take up golf... and that I was to old to bother. I think they missed my point. I wasn't planning on turning pro, just wanted to pay a monthly fee and train. Any way I'm still playing hockey... and once in a while I go to the local gym, but not as much as I'd like.
How expensive is white collar boxing to get into mate, been thinking about it for a while. Had a few bouts as a kid, only lost about 4 I think. Boxing club folded, never carried it on, into my mid teens to early 20's was gettin into trouble, now 25 wished I wouldve made more of an effort to carry on the boxing as a kid, perhaps it wouldve taught me more disclipline and I wouldnt have gotten into the trouble I did.
What's white collar boxing? I haven't boxed yet but I plan on boxing and training amateur when I get done with college in 3 semesters. I don't have any gyms in my area to train at so it's unavailable for me here. I've played American football, baseball, and basketball so I have athletic experience but I understand boxing will be a lot different. I'll have to get used to getting hit in the face. :!:
Does that mean I shouldn't post my record as a "box boy" at the local grocery? But, hey, that is how my brother met Jack Loew....
2-5 with 1RSC runner up in North Of Scotland Junior Districts @ 52kgs and 1993 (in 2008) runner up Scottish Novices Junior championships @ 54kgs and 1993 (in 2008) 1st fight @ 51kgs L8-1 D. Stewart 2nd Fight @ 51kgs L8-5 D. Stewart 3rd Fight @52kgs WRSC3 R. Miller (districts) 4th Fight @ 52kgs L12-10 M. Cummings (districts) 5th Fight @ 59kgs (i only weighed 54kgs) L7-1 F. Mcpherson 6th Fight @ 54kgs W9-1 S.Gray (novices) 7th Fight @ 54kgs L 25-6 (alot closer than the scores) M.Murphy i'm an alright boxer but i get real nervous or too confident for fights and end up being tight. Although 3 losses were really controversial, 1 of them my coach threw my water bottle at the judges, another could have went either way but i felt i did enough and the other one was a blantant robbery but the whole show that night was crap judging. But i cant do nothing about it now.
**** bro, you're 15. To have 7 fights by that age is fabulous, plain and simple. I was just starting at 15. Im 19 and I dont even have that many fights. Keep your head up (though I know you will/do) and keep doing what youre doing.
im the most active in my club and have ha dthe 2nd most fights. i just love fighting im aiming to get about 20 fights before senior and hopefully win afew titles though theres not alot of guys at my weight so i sometimes have to give away weight like the 59kgs fight
