Tell The Ring that, Donaire wouldn't be no.3 by your method. It would also be impossible to rank a fighter until he's had World Title fights by your method. Some fighters just haven't been fighting long enough for that to work, yet their skill and level of ability is obvious (well, to some).

    The irony.

Ask most people on here who is more bonkers of you and me..... do it.

There's no such thing as ''European level'' these days, because the top continental fighters seldom bother with the European title, and instead focus on getting themselves opponents to prepare for world title fights.

It's just used by promoters here to placate Sky and sell tickets.

You can read I take it? I said fringe European. As in he beat two of the best domestic fighters at the weight by hook or by crook. Therefore, he was clearly at the least fringe European level. Or would have been had he not got smashed up by a very talented fighter.

  4. I sense a keyboard battle brewing between Robert and Beeston...

According to your own theories beating Groves should mean nothing as Groves has done nothing but beaten another guy with a padden unbeaten record in Anderson.

Yes you can. Potential and fan critique does factor in otherwise we sit here ranking past it fighters with the best records or doing stupid things like ranking Jamie McDonnell over James DeGale just to be 'fair'. That's bollocks, everyone knows it so I don't see the point.

I agree its mostly done on record up to a point hence why the top 4 is always gonna be the top 4, but there are certainly special cases where its better to just acknowledge the obvious rather than be obtuse. You're gonna feel stupid moving DeGale past McDonnell and that lot just because hes picked up a predictable win for the European title.

Rob, if we strickly keep to achievements and accomplishments only then you could argue Mosley should be near the top still considering he only lost to Mayweather (no 2 or 1 depending on whos ranking) and Mora when he moved up weight. Martinez only really has two good world class wins on his record against boxers who many considered shouldnt have been in the top ten.
Yet ask just about everyone who you would place higher and they would say Martinez.

Others rated in the top ten or thereabouts are Donaire who hadnt been fighting marquee names till recently as well as Ward, Bradley, Khan, Direll etc yet most of these have only stepped up over the last year.

Talent should therefore be included if you believe the boxer in question to be a level above those who have achieved more.

I just think it's plainly obvious that DeGale is a better fighter than an honest grafter like McDonnell.

Exactly. I think there is a balance here. I wouldn't be putting him at 6 like some but acknowledging him at 9 or 10 ahead of quite a few so-so type names I don't think is at all unreasonable. He has one win that matches theirs, a better performance than any of theirs and a lot more talent.

    Of course.

In a year or so's time I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of Gavin or DeGale in a consensus top 5.

Most of the others are much of a muchness (no disrespect intended), and only Khan & Froch are clearly leading the pack.

No because Mosley hasn't had a top win or performance for that matter since January 2009.

My top 10 P4P world would be

    1. Pacquiao
    2. Mayweather
    3. Martinez
    4. JM Marquez
    5. Donaire
    6. W.Klitscko
    7. Bradley
    8. Pascal
    9. Hopkins
    10. Segura

DeGale will almost certainly be top 5 in a years time at the rate he is going, Gavin more likley top 10, just think the opportunitys will be harder to come by for him.

Just don't see how they should be there yet. Don't think you can do these on potential i might as well put Frampton top 3.

Maybe a better performance but the guys like Magee, McDonnell, Macklin etc have 2,3 wins over fighters at that level, some of them away from home to.

having him 9 or 10 i can accept. you cannot possibly have him ahead of Rhodes, Munroe, Burns.

people will think i hate on DeGale because i dont think he is top 10 or becasue I think Groves vs JD is not a walkover. not the case. i was one of the few on here supporting DeGale from day 1 saying he has clear talent as 90% of forum slagged him of because they don't like a confident character. just think the hype around him since beating paul smith who i think is ****ing shockingly poor is crazy. he beat Paul Smith a fat middleweight who barley beat Quigley and Dodson that has a style thats made for him.

lets see how DeGale does against someone that can bunch, does a little bit more than plodding forward. Groves has an awful lot of flaws but he can bang and is brave enough to test DeGale.

i agree about brook, notice he wasnt in my top 10.

i really hope not. he is a serious talent that shouldn't be rushed. it could rewin him.

fair enough he could beat the Sartisons of this world, but what happens if his mandatory is Dirrell, Froch, Abraham etc and he gets ****ing decapitated.
