You talk as if I am in the minority, but you are actually in the minority, and that puts the burden of proof on you.

Even people who are usually critical of me, would acknowledge that Louis fought a lot of people better than Ross Purity!

I would also be interested to hear the case for Klitschko’s best win being somebody other than Chris Byrd.

You're calling Entaowed slow? His and your posts indicate that he has FORGOTTEN more about boxing than you have ever known.

The saddest thing about the Classic Forum nowadays is that intransigent posters like you seem to outnumber good quality posters like Entaowed, especially when the respective merits of Tyson, Liston, Foreman & (to a lesser extent) Lewis are discussed by the blinkered fanboys of said fighters.

I don't think it's no co-incidence that Tyson, Liston & Foreman (through not necessarily any fault of their own) attract in some cases a certain type of fan. I think the ogre/bully boy aura these three possessed appears to attract a certain type of wannabe tough guy/bully boy fan who identify with the auras that these 3 possessed, but the fans themselves don't possess, but aspire to. Thus, when the credentials of their chosen idol are questioned, the fanboy appears to take this as a personal slight & the childish, irrational, insult laden dick-measuring comments spew forth. Just my $ 0.02 worth...

It turns into the most puerile dickmeasuring than can be imagined, a case of "my mind is made up, do not confuse me with the truth"; where fanboys ram their own opinions down the throats of others without being receptive to the points of view of others, backed up by childish insults...playground stuff.

It's a shame really, Classic Forum used to be a place for high level debate where the occasional idiot (for want of a better word) would soon be weeded out...not so these days...

Smug *******? You're throwing insults in exactly the way I referred to in my original post, proving my point again!

As Ali said after Frazier 1 - "we're gonna set traps", well I'm setting 'em and you're falling right into them both feet first. This is too easy...and damn funny!

Is it even worth me doing so?

It seems that your mind is made up, and you are impervious to the lances of mere logic.

How would Louis beat Ross Purity?

The same way that almost half the opponents he ever fought did I guess. It is something that any sort of world class heavyweight would be expected to do.

How was Wladamir’s smallest opponent his best?

Opponents are graded based on what they accomplish in the ring, as opposed to their size, and Byrd clearly has the best resume of any of his opponents.

Its not exactly like you are bringing high quality arguments to the table here.

If you are so right, and we are so wrong, then why don’t you attempt to demonstrate it?

We are at least willing to outline why we think waht we do.

A heavyweights size has absolutely no bearing whatsoever upon their historical standing.

    None.

Being small might inhibit them from gaining a high historical standing, but if they manage to beat the right people anyway, then their greatness is in no way diminished by their lack of size.

Loosing to big fighters who were not world class, is infinitely more damaging to a fighters legacy, than loosing to small fighters who were world class.

I think this revisionism has gone on too long now. It's basically became established 'fact' that Lewis was robbed (you used the word yourself in the original post) and he wasn't.

Premature stoppage? Yeah, for a heavyweight championship fight I think it was. Robbery? Hell no. I've seen truly awful stoppages but this wasn't among them.
Lewis was wobbling and clearly only half-conscious. The ref was right up in his face and Lewis did not seem coherent, even leaning on the ref, so out of sorts was he.

Let's not take anything away from McCall here, who scored a legitimate stoppage win.

I think Lewis would be troubled by Listons reach. Can you really tell me that Liston doesnt have enough power and skill to push Lennox's $#%& in? I think he would have.

I also think that Joe Louis would beat Lennox Lewis about 7/10 times. He had great boxing ability coupled with serious power.
