By boxing skill, I think they mean, using your style to your advantage, and imposing on your type of fight on your opponent. Not specifically boxing.

Skill and quality wins are the two keys for me. Longevity is typically a byproduct of a weak resume (Joe Cal, Ottke) and even legitimate ATG's typically have losses (SRR, SRL).

A highly skilled fighter should have a wow factor. Nayweather's speed, Hearns power, JMM's counters, they all impress. An ATG should impress you when you watch him.

    Some interesting points.

I've always thought that boxing skill should be a criteria. Not as important as depth of resume and best wins but it should be taken into consideration.
It's also important to look at losses, but these should be looked at in context.

I rank on two criteria: achievements and resume. I use a grading sort of system and take an average to put guys into tiers and then I rank within the tier based on skill level/h2h. that's how I come up with my lists.

For resume I tend to look at the top 10 victories and any losses incurred during their prime.

Achievements are things like longevity, unifications, comebacks, reputation etc.

    1. Depth of resume
    2. Longevity
    3. Boxing skills

All that other **** can go in these 3 imo. This is a good thread bro. Got me thinking on how I rank the ATGs.

    Thanks :good ..
As in a top 100? I don't know, i have never sat down and made one, it would take months of work..
Wladimir has good depth and longevity, his top wins are not that great + he has some bad losses.. Imo he IS a top 10 HW.. He would probably rank 89-100 on a top 100

    I meant HW ATG's.

You see i've always had a problem putting Wlad in my top 10, because I rank them based on similar criteria to you.

You said the two most important things are depth of resume and best wins. IMO those are the two areas Wlad doesn't excell in. He scores highly in Longevity and Prime H2H though.

As for top 100 P4P i haven't even thought about doing one of those
Maybe one weekend where I have **** all to do I'll try to knock one out myself.

Just to add. I sometimes get tempted to put more weight on the boxing skills. Because it just doesn't seem right to rank someone below a fighter they could POSSIBLY beat. But at the end of the day, it's what you do with those skills that makes you an atg. It shows a mental toughness that not everybody has. And honestly I think people throw around that term too much.
