Say what you want, but mine were with The UFC. I have a brother who is 8 years older than me, and a few times a month when I was a kid our Mom would take us to the video store. We would get 1 video each, but I can remember for a long period of time (close to a whole year) we would both get seperate UFC cards. He was a big Severn fan, and so was I.. I still am till this day. He is 32 and I am 24. That didn't last forever, but this section and a select few brought me back around 2006 :thumbsup
Mine is Chuck v Randy 2 on Bravo TV in the UK. Was channel hopping and caught the start of Hughes picking up Trigg slamming him and winning the fight he was getting his ass kicked in. Kinda ignored that ''cage fighting crap'' until then but after that I was hooked. Went back and got a hold of UFC 1-5 from a friend. Then he lent me some PRIDE dvd's and been hooked ever since.
16 years ago I went round to my local dealers to buy some hash and I watched Pardoel vs Wiet from UFC 2, while he was raving like a nutter about this guy (Gracie) who wrapped his body around his opponent like a snake and put them to sleep. That was my first MMA fight. At the time I was a boxing fan but just followed Naz, Lewis and Tyson really.
I believe UFC 95 was the first time I tuned in. I remember hearing about Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans on neoseeker, but I think this was the first event I actually tuned in for. Also heard about Lesnar vs. Mir and had seen some UFC events in the past. The first fight I tuned in was Dan Hardy vs. Rory Markham and I instantly became a fan of him. After that, I watched UFC 96, 98, about that time I bought the game and from 100 onwards I was a fan.
I watched UFC 1 on my buddies illegal cable box Thought it was the most boring and stupidest thing I ever saw Then I really got into it when all kinds of small time local leagues started popping up in California in the late 90's
My first MMA memory was watching the trailer for the first UFC for six weeks before the first event. They had the coolest highlight videos of the fighters with knock outs, knock downs and all kinds of crazy stuff. I remember being somewhat disappointed at the final outcome of the event because I never got to see anyone get the kod, but I knew when I was watching the first Royce Gracie vs Ken Shamrock match that I was seeing something real - between the best fighters in the world. In my mind that fight will always be the first true MMA fight between mixed martial artists - although both of their striking abilities were the shits.lol
My first MMA memory would be renting a Best of Ken Shamrock tape from blockbuster when I was 10 or 11. I was a big Shamrock fan from WWF and I was intrigued by the early days of the UFC - especially how easily Royce handled Shammie in their first fight. My second MMA memory would be watching UFC 40 the day after I turned 12 on my parents black box and seeing Shamrock get his ass beat by Tito for 3 rounds.
I've seen a vid of that. Inoki spent the whole time polishing the canvas with his bum and they barely engaged at all.
Yeah, pre-Fertitta UFC on VHS @ Blockbuster for me too. Tank Abbott was the baddest man on the planet. Ortiz and Belfort were the beastly NKOTB. Severn was still a beast. Coleman was champ.
