Your experiences meeting boxers

Can't say I've really met any :think

Oh, a lad I used to play 5 aside with has had half a dozen fights in the amateurs, One Punch Will (don't know his surname) he's 5-0-1 (5 KO's) so far.... and a lad who works for us has a cousin that turned pro a couple of weeks ago and beat Matt Seawright on points over 6x2's.

Met Froch at the airport after the Kessler fight. Came across as a really nice bloke, didn't mind signing my ticket and having a photo even though he was clearly pissed off at losing.

 

Ola Afolabi outside the Mayweather workout: Top, top bloke. Got a pic with him (where I look like a bit of a ******.) Stopped outside for about 20-30 minutes talking to the fans, didn't really speak to him too much because I didn't know what to ask him although I did overhear him say "Who the **** is Clinton Woods?!?" when asked about a potential fight

Paulie Malignaggi at the Khan presser in London: Was in a mad rush, being ushered inside but took the time to hang back and take a photo with me (In this one I look like I'm on crack :good )

Oscar De La Hoya, also at the presser. Not so much 'met' him but he was surrounded by about 20 people shoving gloves in his face for him to sign. I reached over all of them (being 6'3 has some advantages!) and gave him a glove to sign. Despite still being mobbed he made sure he gave the glove back to me and not some randomer which was very nice of him :good

Also saw Buncey outside the aforementioned presser, didn't speak to him but he is indeed massive

 

Glenn McRory and Richie Woodhall probably the 2 nicest I've met. Proper gents.

To be fair never met Hatton but my brother met him before Haye Ruiz and he had a drink and shared a few jokes with my brother n his mates n was apparently sound as ****, he was pissed though!

 

What kinda example is that setting for the youngsters?

Met Hatton at a charity do after the Lazcano fight

He signed autographs all night, posed for pics etc no drama. I got him to do a couple, no sweat.

Bruno was there, what a lovely friendly guy he is.

I saw Gary Mason on London Bridge station one night, surprisingly short but very hefty

 

Ray's gotta earn his keep somehow.

 

An ex professional boxer called Adrian Clegg used to go to same amateur Boxing gym I went to before he turned pro.

Ex British and European bantamweight champion Noel Wilders lives in same area as I do, he lives about ten minutes from my house.

My little claim to fame is when I did amateur Boxing, I once boxed in front of Ricky Hatton at a dinner doo at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool, it was in Jaunary 2004.
He was doing some after dinner speaking with that Matthew Ellis, his dad was there too, I got his autograph but lost it lol.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard - Really nice, intelligent bloke who was happy to chat even though his management were try to pull him away

Hatton - came across as a really down to earth bloke

Calzaghe - Nice guy who let his guard down a bit occasionally and really slagged off Robin Reid

Bruno - met him several times and was very nice but came across as a bit dumb

Holyfield - didnt say much, just let me take a picture

Ritchie Woodhall - Intelligent and very nice bloke

Duke Mackenzie - didnt say much but seemed nice enough

Spencer Oliver - A right laugh and very nice bloke

Steve Bunce - He is massive and out of everybody, he took the most time to talk and was very doen to earth and accomodating

 

i met ken buchanan before the benn eubank fight at old trafford and the bloke is a star.
i met ricky hatton when he was about 19 and the bloke was sound

 

Been lucky, met loads, nearly every last one was a great person. The best? Kev Mitchell is as nice a geezer as you would ever meet, Nigel Benn greated me like a long lost brother, Diego Corrales was really chatty.
