I like Al Bernstein and Steve Albert a lot. Steve Farhood is intelligent too, although sometimes his voice gets on my nerves. Johnny Nelson is pretty decent. I like Tarver. Teddy Atlas has his moments, but there are a lot of negatives to go with a lot of positives, although he's absolutely the best at breaking down a fight, bar none. Can't stand most of the guys on HBO. Roy Jones was decent when he did it for a while, but that's about it. And is it Ronnie Nathanielz who calls the Filipino fights on Solar? That guy's a trip. I can't believe people are mentioning Bob Sheridan. Half the time he seems to just invent what he's seeing. Not as bad as Gus Johnson though - he's the worst.
I feel the same way, although what irritates me the most, is his "I know best" attitude, and the way he tries to coax people into thinking what he thinks. The Colonel is funny though, EVERY! fight is a war, even if its not.
Hard to say on this one. I like the knowledge of Al Bernstein, but his voice and excitement sometimes are too much. I wish the demeanor of Jim Lampley could have the boxing knowledge of Bernstein. I used to love Clancy and Tim Ryan. They really analyzed boxing well.
That guy who did the commentary for Jones Jr./Hopkins II. He also did Tyson/Douglas. I should be stoned for not knowing his name.
