James 'light's out' Toney: Roy Jones Jr – L (ma ***** got his ass whopped) Mike McCallum – 2 wins & 1 draw Michael Nunn – KO rd 11 Vassily Jirov – UD (Vassily was a beast when they met, underrated) Evander Holyfield – TKO rd 9 (only at #5 because Holyfield was faded, yet still a great win) John Ruiz – NC (Toney whopped him, something many legitimate HWs couldn’t do) Iran Barkley – TKO rd 10 Reggie Johnson – SD Montell Griffin – 2 losses, both robberies… Hasim Rahman – 1 draw, 1 NC (robbery) (Rahman ain’t great but still a 2time HW beltholder, that’s why I put him here) Samuel Peter – 2 losses, one of them a robbery (Peter ain’t great but he was a feared, avoided and dangerous HW at the time they met, that’s why I put him here)
Yes Charles Williams should've made that list, but I wanted to include some HWs. He really picked apart Charles Williams methodically and then KOed him brutally. A thing of beauty. I also like how he picked apart Iran Barkley. But all in all I think his first two fights with McCallum are his best performances, because McCallum was competitive throughout and brought out the best in Toney. Toney really had to use all of his skill-arsenal to stand his ground. He also had to fight aggressively and could not rely on counterpunching. Jirov brought out the best in Toney too, but Toney could rely more on his counterpunching in that fight.
Erik Morales..... 1. Marco Antonio Barrera W 12 / L 12 / L 12 2. Manny Pacquiao W 12 / L TKO 10 / L KO 3 3. Jesus Chavez W 12 4. Junior Jones W TKO 4 5. Paulie Ayala W 12 6. Carlos Hernandez W 12 7. Wayne McCullouch W 12 8. Daniel Zaragoza W KO 11 9. Kevin Kelley W TKO 7 10. Guti Espadas W 12 / W KO 3 (Not bad for an entertainer eh ?) Botswana :smoke
I'd probably find some space for Injin Chi; he gave a pretty prime Morales all he could handle and was later a good beltholder in his own right.
Joe Calzaghe Bernard Hopkins W SD Mikkel Kessler W UD Chris Eubank W UD Jeff Lacy W He 'Lacy'd him'. Roy Jones Jr - W UD Charles Brewer - W UD Robin Ried - W SD Byron Mitchell - W TKO 2 Richie Woodhall - W TKO 10 Omar Sheika/Sakio Bika - W TKO 5/W UD
Jose Luis Castillo (one of my favourite modern boxers): 1 - Floyd Mayweather (L,L) 2 - Stevie Johnson (W,D) - I think a prime Johnson was a phenomenal boxer (the reason I have him above Corrales) 3 - Diego Corrales (L,W) 4 - Joel Casamayor (W) 5 - Ricky Hatton (L) 6 - Juan Lazcano (W) 7 - Cesar Bazan (W) 8 - Julio Diaz (W) 9 - Javier Jauregui (L,L) 10 - Steve Quinonez (W)
I would put Hatton above Corrales - but then again the Chico fight was more relevant for Castillo than the Hatton one. He was put in there for an ass-whipping to set up the Hatton/Mayweather fight.
1. Julio Cesar Chavez- Controversial Draw 2. Oscar De La Hoya- Controversial Loss 3. Azumah Nelson- Win 4. Felix Trinidad- Loss 5. Buddy McGirt- Two Wins 6. Julio Cesar Vasquez- Win 7. Jose Luis Ramirez- Win, Controversial Loss 8. Roger Mayweather- Win 9. Greg Haugen- Win 10. Pineda/Hurtado/Pendleton/Paez- All Wins
I disagree. He was shot, but a shot Pernell is still a very formidable fighter, and he proved it, especially early on prior to breaking his jaw, against Tito that night.
