Not my favorite , as JC Chavez is one of my favorite fighters. But, he was supposed to easily get by Frankie Randall. Things went differently for him. Frankie Randall really put n a masterclass performance and gave JCC his first loss.
I thought Arias lost to Rosado, so I thought Hurd could handle him. I'm not mad at being wrong there. Anyways, one of my personal favorites was watching Jesse James Leija beat Francisco Bojado. Leija was a faded entity at 38 who was brought in to help the highly-skilled Bojado progress to the next level. Leija proved too crafty in there though, weathering Bojado's early onslaught and outboxing him to earn a split decision.
You really think Barrera was a cherrypick by Hamed ??? It's a while ago now but my memory is that Barrera got the fight because even though he lost to Morales most fans and journalists scored the fight to MAB.
Not sure this can really be considered a cherry pick because Nelson was a substitute. But no-one was expecting Nelson to be so tough. Of course, he proved he was a handful for most people as his career went on.
It wasn’t a cherry pick. Barrera was looking really good in his previous fight against Salud. Steward was sounding nervous in the booth.
I read another quote from Duff, saying that they wondered if the Palomino they fought was really the same guy that they had seen film of. If you saw Palomino in the draw with Lewis you might ask the same question.
I heard a story that Hamed took the fight on the advice of his brother after Barrera hadn't looked good for several fights. After the fight was signed Barrera put it on Salud. The story says that Hamed slapped his brother. I think that I read that in a boxing magazine back then.
Hamed knew Barrera well. He was ringside when Junior Jones beat him, which I imagine stopped it from happening earlier.
