Freddie Pendelton, though he went from Journeyman to champion to fringe contender Quirino Garcia, didnt he start out at like 0-16 then went on to become semi-decent Augustus for obvious reasons Darryl Pinkney-- tough guy who scored upsets over Guty Espadas and Junior Jones Louis Monaco- scored a couple upsets and has an all time great nickname
Did you know that when the final bell rang Tex turned to referee Steve Crosson & said " Give me 3 more rounds & I'll knock Holmes out" I thought that was just one of Tex stories but I met Steve Crosson in Dallas years later & he verified it. He said Tex was serious saying Larry couldnt hit him no more his hands hurt too much. One of a kind Tex a great guy Toughest SOG I ever met
Jim Braddock is a good shout but once u win the title the other one goes our the window! But he def was before that
Randall was a two time champion, and, beat arguably one of the top 25 greatest fighters of all time. Randall is no journeyman.
I have a couple. Tony Galento, Jerry Quarry, George Chuvalo, Bert Cooper, Emmanuel Augustus & Micky Ward
Jerry quarry and George Chuvalo weren’t journeyman. They were consistently ranked contenders for much of their career
Hmm interesting. I know they were world contenders in the 60s, but in the 70s I felt that they (particularly Chuvalo) were journeymen. I guess your right though - especially about Quarry, who in the 70s had big wins over Mathis, M Foster, Lyle & Shavers.
Johnny Risko Soldier Bartfield Willie Meehan Young Peter Jackson This guys were at times genuine journeyman but also ranked contenders. They could literally beat anyone in history though on the right night, and had great wins amidst ugly records.
