Man, boxing's going to be a poorer place when Merchant's gone. The guy genuinely loves and respects the sport and never toes the corporate line, like some commentators have been known to do.

it was something from another thread, that showed boxing's funniest lines, and they should norm stone calling john ruiz roy jones. then norman stone curses up a storm saying **** the referee and all this and larry says, "the good thing about seeing ruiz lose is, it will probably be the last we see of norman stone."

During Naz's entrance for the Kelley fight:

"This is the end of Western civilisation as we know it."

    Too many to count really.

Calling Christy Martin "The Raging Cow" has to be up there though.

I dont remember the exact quote and I forget which fight it was but he was using a chess game metaphor to describe the heavyweight division and he started giving each guy a chess piece. Ruiz is the horseman, Wladimir is the rook ect. Im sure it meant something to him in that alzheimers brain of his:lol:

Larry was and is a great commentator. Boxing will have lost a great one when he finally retires. Sad thing is I don't see anyone replacing him for a long time. Kellerman, bless his little heart, is trying but he has a long way to go before he makes us forget Larry Merchant.

Larry Merchant is one in a million. We'll never forget him. Even if you don't always agree with what he says, he asks the questions we all want to be answered.

When the ref told Castillo & Mayweather to calm down and Larry said something along the lines of "calm down? its fight, he should calm down"
