then there was marty jakubowski who was 89-1 when he challenged Miguel angel gonzales in i think 95. he was a talented cutie who lacked power.
actually got himself THREE world title shots just based on his numbers. he never beat a single contender. and he twice fought Chavez in non title fights.

Jimmy Wilde 132-3 (132-1 if you don't count his last 2 fights, both of which he came out of retirement from. I don't care what his competition lacked in names, this kid's punch power is incredible)

John L Sullivan 38-1 boxing record, undefeated in bareknuckle. (An argument can be made that Jake Kilrain was a good name on his list, especially since Sullivan beat Kilrain when Sullivan was past his prime).

Young Stribling 224-13 (best win is a DQ over Carnera, which was described as most likely a fix. Still though, of his 13 loses, only 1 came by knockout, and it was his TKO against Schmeling which happened in the 15th round. Maybe we need to discuss him in top tier chin lists?)

The idea of Sullivan being limited, is the biggest joke in the history of the sport!

He was so far ahead of that available opposition, that he could work dominating them for a decade or so, around a serious drink problem!

God help the world if this guy had been focused!

I didn't really focus on the "limited" part, I was more focusing on the "not many good names on resume" part

I agree Sullivan was a monster in his prime from what I've heard, his only real weakness being booze

Wilde was a great fighter, the records of a lot of his opponents are imcomplete, as is his probably.

Once he gets going in this he's very good to watch.

Sullivan wasn't really limited either, he was fast and powerfull, and blow away the competition to a crazy extent for some time. By the Kilrain fight he'd had a bad arm injury I don't think ever recovered, and had drank himself near death multiple times, that he still won a long grueling fight with Kilrain in those conditions speaks volumes of how ability in his prime. Everyone just tends to focus on when he was shot to pieces.

I'd agree with Stribling, he had good reflexes, but he only seemed able to jab off them, and his attacks were fairly cumbersome. A decent fighter but far from a great one.
