Now that the great Body Snatcher has passed away let’s show some appreciation of the skills, craft, toughness, and unforgettable fights that he’s been in. McCallum has been in plenty of fights that were fought at such an elite level, whether it was a dominant performance or great competitive fights. What are some of your personal favorite fights from McCallum that you could watch over again?
His short but vicious war with Julian Jackson where he was stunned by premier puncher but kept his school from a terrific onslaught and took over the following round. This content is protected
As Fred says above, his clash with Jackson. Also his fights with Toney,1 and 2 . Also Michael Watson and Bomber Graham And also his fights with Kalambay
I wrote this in the RIP thread. McCallum/Toney 1 = One of my favourite technical fights of all time. McCallum/Curry = One of my favourite left hook KO's of all time. McCallum/Watson = One of my favourite systematic beat downs. McCallum/Harding = One of my favourite performances from a fighter past his prime.
Deff the McCallum/Toney 1 fight one of my favorite fights ever. Also people overlook McCallum/Kalambay 2 another great technical fight where McCallum adapted and overcame a really tricky matchup who completely schooled him in the first fight.
I heard an interview where Mike said he initially planned to drag Julian into deep waters but got tagged by a punch he barely saw and realized that Julian was insanely quick to the target. At that moment he knew he had to take him out quickly, and did so. That is what a high IQ boxer does. Adjusts. Changes gears in a heartbeat. And can operate in multiple modes.
McCallum/Kalambay 2 is fight I've been meaning to rewatch again I've only seen it once but I remember McCallum built an early lead and then Kalambay comeback in the 2nd half of the fight and made it close. I'm hoping it gets uploaded again in high quality though before watching it again because there's quite alot classic fights on YT being restored in 60 fps it's so much better. When I watched Holmes/Norton in 60 fps it was such a better viewing experience.
I think that the three fights that best embody what McCallum was like as a fighter were his wins against Skouma, McCrory, and Watson. Ride out the tough moments, get better as the fight goes on, wear them down, and eventually stop them late. His best win was probably against a young Jackson or an old Kalambay.
I love McCallum - Kalambay 2, Mike started better and Kalambay came back in the second part of the match. Close and entertaining fight, The Bodysnatcker won by SD, fair verdict in my opinion.
Toney/McCallum 1 will always been gold. His fight with Curry was fast, crisp and interesting with a sudden ending.
