Did who have other options? To be honest I'm not much of a Joe fan and wish he went to the states earlier but there really wasn't many he could fight. Ottke wouldn't fight him.

Yeah I have to agree there.

Calzaghe's opposition, for the first EIGHT YEARS of his championship career, was every bit as bad as Jones' run at 175lbs, in fact you could argue that it was worse.

That being said I would never call Joe a fraud. He won titles in two weight classes and the Kessler victory was awesome.

Shame the **** checkers can't give Jones credit for his accomplishments!

    Farcical!

Just look at who they fought by their 30th fight ..If he couldn't land Jones he could have fought someone else ..Toney was available,he could have moved up to lt heavy if he really wanted to ..There were options ..To knock Jones for losing after he's past his best when other fighteaers chose to take much safer routes always confuses me ..I mean this is the hurt business no ? So Jones got hurt by challenging himself even when his physical gifts were diminished ..Says allot more to me than someone who chose to fight a bunch of no namers ..I mean Arturo Gatti is revered for his wars against Journey man but were knocking a legend for losing against better fighters :think

    What about, lets see now, Calzaghe's opposition in 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 04?

He requests one big fight in 2003, when he hadn't even posted a significant victory and that deserves merit?

Hopkins fought him when both guys were considered superstars and as a result the bout was infinitely more lucrative.

    This x 10

Tragically it makes too much sense to be taken seriously!

Anyone who slates Jones and calls him a fraud has never taken part in a combat sport in their natural born life! No respect!

Oh I like that knockout best!

    **** off, clowns!

What about it? It wasn't very good but he beat what was there. Ottke wouldn't fight him. The only person you could say he should have fought was Glen Johnson.

    You ignorant twat.
Woodhall, Reid, Eubank, Mitchell, Brewer all top 10 rated and all have been SMW world champs. Veit was an interim world champ.
if you work out how many fighters were top 10 rated and how many became top 10 rated after Calzaghe beat them he fought 22 SMW title fights and 15 were or became top 10 rated. I havent included Ferreyra who had been top 10 rated before fighting Calzaghe

Thats very good but even better when you note Calzaghes LHW career, because as a career total it becomes

fighters who were rated when he fought them. Reid, Sheika, Woodhall, Veit2, Brewer, Mitchell, Ashira, Manfredo, Lacy, Kessler, Jones, Hopkins, Bika. Eubank got rated for his loss so could be included to make

So did Jones and Dariusz Michalczewski wouldn't leave Germany if you held a gun to his head.

If you were Jones and, pound for pound, the best fighter on earth would you go to GERMANY when you're most hurtful memory is being ROBBED BLIND the last time you traveled (Seoul)? Be honest with yourself!

Calzaghe could have made moves to fight Roy Jones when it mattered, instead of waiting around for him to age. He even wrote in his autobiography that the fight was meaningless because Jones was shot and then fought him a year later.

Frankly that is bull**** and a ***** move at it's most severe! All that and I still respect the guy because Calzaghe is a fighter and a champion. Shame people can't look at Jones the same way!

DM said many times he would fight Jones in the states. And you say fighters get robbed in Germany yet in that era we had the disgrace of Sturm-Oscar in the States.

Roy was never the 175lbs champion. In today's terms it's like Mayweather moving up to middleweight, collecting the paper titles from the likes of Chavez etc and then parading himself as the middleweight champion of the world, while Sergio Martinez was still fighting and winning.

Jones fought the LOSER of Hill-DM and then fought some absolute stiffs to pick up paper titles. He tried to justify it by saying they would "take my belts Larry" if he didn't fight some dud.

I dont have 100 percent insight, but as far as I know Calzaghe was a big draw in the UK, thus would have attracted a whole lot of PPV. And he was a titleholder as well. As far as I can tell, Calslappy went after a big gun and the big gun ducked.
