What's your overall favorite style of boxing, why, and give and example of a fighter who fights like this.

Mine's swarmer (JCC), I liked this style because it was an endurance fight, a chess match, and a battle of wills and intellect depending on opponent across the ring.

I like slick fighters who can negate a a swarmer....malignaggi and PBF....guys that need to be in good shape and sharp to hold guys off for 12 rds...but a good war is always cool with me

    Three favorites ever...

    1- Whitaker
    2- Hopkins
    3- Jones

I would say defensive fits the bill (tho I would argue more cerebral)...LOL!

Honestly tho, I can enjoy and appreciate just about any style...especially when its done in a masterful sense. Like watching Tyson's ferocity...or Hagler switch from wonderful boxer to fierce brawler whenever the time called for it (I hate when people mistake Marvin for a brawler who could box...when in reality, he was exactly the opposite...a boxer who could brawl)...or Leonard's ability to put his punches together in ways that just seemed impossible...or Hopkins way of laying traps for his opponents...or...you get my point.

I voted Defensive, but it's more to the point that I prefer alert, thinking fighters. Hopkins is my all-time favourite. I also love to watch veterans in the ring like Jersey Joe Walcott and Archie Moore doing their thing. Mayweather is another favourite to watch.

That said, I love watching action fights as well. Hard to strictly categorize it.

Out of what you listed, Boxer-puncher, overall though, unorthodox, like Jones.

    1) Hard-hitting aggressive fighters... Juan Diaz has an exciting come forward style, but I've never been a big fan because he doesn't have the pop to truly devastate his opponents.

    2) Highly active counter-punchers with good head movement. Ex: Emanuel Augustus & James Toney.

I prefer offensive, because its the most entertaining style. I like fighters who make the pressure and move ahead.

Examples: David Tua, Tomasz Adamek, early Mike Tyson

A Technician . . . Arguello, Mayweather, Whitaker, Toney, young ODLH, Dawson, Tyson (yes, Tyson was a technician)

Then a Brawler . . . Hagler, Gatti, Chavez, Corrales, Trinidad (although he is not one of my favorite fighters)

My least favorite style of "boxing": Jab-n-grab . . . Ruiz, W. Klitschko, Ward

Defensive fighters like Winky and Pernel Whittaker - I like.

I'm starting to like Marquez - it is very different and unique the way he fights. Not sure about the technical side, but he just looks different to the "norm".

I dunno man, Marquez is the epitome of the "norm", the textbook. He's a bigger Ricardo Lopez. And coincidentally, I love Juan Manuel Marquez, as the explosive boxer-puncher in present form. My favorite kind of boxer.

Boxer/Punchers mostly or aggressive or more active counterpunchers like JMM and Toney (when he wanted to).
