Physically Tyson could take a hell of a punch, it was the mental side of getting hit and being dominated that he couldn't handle too well.
Nah, i went for Douglas. And that's not because i don't like Tyson or anything (he's one of my favorites), but because it was such a boxing masterpiece against an INVINCIBLE, 44-1 favorite. The Holyfield fight had a bit more tension and eb-and-flow, but i feel rounds 6, 7, 8 and 9 were not THAT interesting. As for him at his peak, i like the Holmes bout. A very durable man who went on to have his share of victories years afterwards. The Tucker and Thomas fights are good scraps as well - couldn't include the Thomas one though. One final comment - maybe it's me, but i think Tyson never looked better than he did against Berbick. So many 4-punch combos!
there was a thread on this fight a few weeks back. He was the only one of tyson's early opponents that he DIDN'T help to his feet or check on. He was stupid and must have said something to **** mike off before the fight.
Actually, pretty much all of Tyson's early fights are fun watching because his opponents are so overmatched, and/or weird. Sammy Scaff. This guy looks like he should be in the Kentucky Mountains making moonshine, not in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson Look at his nose at 1:20 [yt]bCXLr619DDk[/yt] The Tyson-McNeeley fight's another classic, the staredown makes me laugh no matter how often I watch it. Also notice how he skips around the ring after he gets dropped in about 5 seconds :rofl [yt]PQ4pGM_ylOY[/yt]
Aye, that little lap of honour is something else. Peter: "I'm going to wrap you in a cocoon of horror!" Tyson looked mildly impressed at that line. McNelley did really, really well in the aftermath of that fight. Got a Pizza Hut commercial or some ****. Might be the only time Don King got rolled, that fight.
I love the fights against Razor Ruddock. Big bangers throwing absolute bombs at one another for two great fights. That body punch against Johnson is just unfair to say the least.
tyson vs berbick. berbick really believed he would win, and he tried so hard not to be knocked out, his legs just wouldn't listen. 3 knock downs with one punch!! my#1 and iron mikes first title>
Holmes then. I find it actually quite hard to make a pick, as is the case with so many fighters. Btw, have you seen Old Fogey's research bit on Dempsey-Flynn at the classic section? Bed now, good night.
