Many threads, many posts, and many good memorable times I'm sure since you have became a member. What have been your favourite moments on the section?. It could be a particular thread you found absorbing and interesting that went for many pages. A debate you seen between two members you liked to read and found it funny or not so funny. Maybe an unusual thread that stood out from the normal type. It could well be a funny avatar that someone had for a certain amount of time. I'm sure everyone knows whats required. Ok members, lets hear it.............................................. Moderators: Please note, this thread is only for people who visit the classic section for obvious reasons, not people within the lounge. It's exclusive to the classic section.
I couldn't possibly narrow it down to one moment unless they were all laid out in front of me. All those stoning posts have left my memory a bit shoddy. Probably our good old Whitaker/Duran debates with Stonehands and occasionally Manassa when he was feeling up to it. There's so much I could post about but I'd probably end up rambling.
A few that come to mind: 1. Debate between CrossTrainer and Amsterdam, regarding fighters skill's of yesterday vs today. 2. Star Wars avator week last year, started by yours truly. 3. Anything involving homicidal hank and his multiple alias's 4. Any good debates between myself and Chris Pointus, Marciano Frazier, John Thomas, Old Fogey, etc. 5. All of the bannings of a poster who went by the account names of I am Legend, Wealthy Elite, Mega Tyson, etc..
Sorry I can't think of who started the thread, "Alotta people might not know this, but..." But it was the thread when John Garfield aired out some of his great first hand memories around the game. LaMotta getting slapped by the effeminate actor, DiMaggio's #1 fan goin' after him when Joltin' Joe wanted a $5 fee for an autograph, ("You Mutha..."), you guys must remember, they just went on and on...
My pick is when China_Hand_Joe claimed that Sugar Ray Robinson had admitted he would never beat Calzaghe. When people pointed out he was dead, Joe posted a picture of Joe Calzaghe - standing next to Sugar Ray Leonard. Classic moment.
Yeah, the Revolver, Homicidal Hank, Pepping It, Megaman saga was a great one. JT and MDWC were all up in it and were coming up with some hilarious observations to counter them/him. :good
I remember Revolver trying to convince everyone that Winky Wright had been the linear middleweight champion all along.
I have favorites out here who I always read, including JT, Conteh, Chris Pontius, Sweet Pea, Robbi, SuzyQ, McGrain, Chinx, Fists of Fury, Janitor, Sweet Scientist, SalSanchez, dmt, dpw, Fogey, Meta (who should be here more often), and of course, John Garfield. There are more, but those suffice for now. I also have to admit that I enjoy Red Rooster and enjoyed Revolver as well. The discussions and debates are the best things about this site. I had some good ones that I remember with JT (re: Hagler-Duran), Meta (I think it was about "power"... but I'm not sure), Janitor (Pioneers vs. Moderns in terms of skill), Pea and Robbi (Whitaker, Pep, Duran), Pontius (the Liston question). Even though he drove me nuts, Senya and I did go round and round about Roy Jones numerous times, which was also fun. And, even though they have unfortunately as of late, lurched into personal attacks, the Armstrong and then Ike Williams vs. Duran debates with Manassa were good too.
I've mentioned this before, but it still rings true. IamLegend's comment on whether or not the Holmes and Berbick fights should hurt Ali's all time standing is still the funniest thing I've read on this forum. "Yes, those were his legacy fights." That really made me laugh out loud.
I really enjoy this forum. It's 95% of the time, pure boxing related, throughout all the threads. It's just a different 'kettle of fish' to the general forum. I can honestly say I have always been a regular on here since the day I joined, although I do go through spells of posting often and sometimes not. I have to say that some posters have a jump start on others when it comes to presentation and grammar. Stonehands89 and Manassa are classic examples as they have a more expansive vocabulary to most others. My full blown war with Manassa sure was a classic debate well beyond the sport of boxing. Probably Stonehands89 and Sweet Pea battling out for a few rounds arguing about Whitaker-Hearns at welterweight. Comical reading. That debate went slightly off the rails to a certain extent. Myself and JT having a different opinion on Foreman's chin in Zaire was another that springs to mind. For some reason myself and JT pick each other up wrong and disagree, yet get on well. I think it's because we don't even think about getting personal with each other. Every relationship between two people in the world isn't the same. Usually our debates end up getting sorted out, end up a laugh, and a joke rather than anything nasty.
..........The one memory that stands out probably more than any other is shortly after I first joined back in the summer of '04. I started a thread about the ten best fighters of the 1980's, and put ay Leonard #1. That was my introduction to Rooster/Revolver. Or one of the two. Who cares; anyway, the thing ended up in this multi-page set-to between him and Achillesthegreat that seemed to go on till Christmas.
