your favourite fighter, and why?

Not sure but for a man who puts both hands behind his back and not only make you miss but beat you to the punch...cmon now who needs defense

 

He did it against Pazienza, though not exactly within range. Still a brilliant and fun to watch performance, my favorite of Jones.

As far as fighters as hard to hit within range, Locche and Benitez would probably be good choices. I'd say Whitaker was the best combination of offense and defense though, in that I mean he rarely ever went on the defensive, unless he was playing to the crowd or show-boating. He was an offensive fighter style-wise(fought off the jab, excellent, crafty inside game) who had phenomenal reflexes and ring sense.

 

Thats what I am saying....

I love when people attempt to say he ran in fights (mostly Chavez fans) or that he was boring...the man regularly threw 1000+ punches a fight...all while making the opponents offense look feeble.

And as McGrain pointed out...he regularly sought out the best. Something that is a lost art with most fighters.

The best jab in the history of boxing. I will say that both as a Whitaker fan and an analyst of fighter's styles. Give me other contenders and I'll dispute them.

It wasn't the most powerful, but you simply could not outjab him. He was far more versatile with it than a guy like Quartey or Wright, amd more efficient than someone like Jones, who's jab looked great at times.

A guy like Liston, Wlad, etc have harder ones, but Whitaker could sneak his jab over the top of yours, land it straight through your defense, go under and land it, etc. The most efficient jab of all time I'd say, under any situation. It was one of the main reasons he was so great at fighting off the backfoot, and why he made pressure fighters look so bad.

True. I think Pea's was the most versatile and efficient though. It was the tool that held the rest of his game together so perfectly.

 

I am shocked noone has named Vnnie Pazienza, on pure style and showmanship.
