not sure if this has been a common thread or not (so apologies if it is!) but, who is your favourite past fighter and your favourite current fighter and why? i havent been a big boxing fan for a huge amount of time (4/5 years) so it's hard for me to pick a past fighter as a favourite but at a push i'd pick Hatton because watching the KT fight when i was younger is a standout memory. Favourite current fighter is GGG, remember hearing about him in late 2011 and followed him ever since. there's a fantastic video on youtube from a guy who broke down his performance against Geale. the nuances of his movement is incredible. i'd link it here but i live in China, so no youtube for me! haha:bbb:yep
Past : Chris Eubank Sr. - I was a big fan of him when I was young. His fight were always entertaining and hard-fought. He had a lot of charisma, only after the Watson-fight he was never the old Chris Eubank anymore. Present : Gennady Golovkin - Because he is so exciting to watch. He is very likable and his style is fan-friendly.
recent past - Naseem Hamed, Roy Jones Jr current - Pac, Mayweather, Lomachenko; in the UK (Kevin Mitchell and Kid Galahad) ancient - Sugar Ray Robinson It depends on preference. I like pure boxers or boxer punchers (see above), but others prefer the excitement that comes from knock out artists or just good old fashioned tear ups.
Past- Muhammad Ali, what can I say other than a true legend and the way about his business just makes him so enjoyable to watch Present- Carl Froch, limited in natural ability but he uses everything he has to the maximum and is always entertaining when he fights and when against an opponent like Kessler, who he respects a great deal, shows great professionalism and is a huge credit to boxing. As for an international favourite it would have to be Golovkin, again thoroughly entertaining and a shows great professionalism and is also a huge talent
Past RJJ - In his peak, he was close to unbeatable. He was insanely talented and amazingly gifted. He could do things in a ring that people only dream of. If there was one boxer i would most like to be then that would be RJJ! Current Froch - He's the polar opposite of RJJ in style but his fight anyone anywhere, all guns blazing mentality is refreshing to see in this day and age. A true throw back fighter of yesteryear and always entertaining to see in the ring. He's been involved in so many classic modern day fights, making him a fan favourite - v Pascal, v Kessler x2, v Groves, v Taylor.
Past Larry Holmes who who struggled to get the adulation he craved ruling the heavyweight division after the Ali era . he was the ruler of the division for 7 years and 20 title defences Present Froch who is a throw back to yesteryear fighters, fights whose put In front of him with no fuss
Past - Hagler (Naseem Hamed and Joe Louis are very close too) Current - Pacquiao (Cotto and GGG are right up there too)
