I have noticed that you keep your input short these days. I'm currently in the business of getting a lot more fights on DVD for viewing. I appreciate that reading books from secondary sources can be educational but nothing beats actually seeing the fighters for yourself. I often wonder if you're Max Kellerman, a notorious Pernell Whitaker fan himself, and now with your job at HBO you just don't have the time to educate the likes of me anymore.
:good Na i aint tripping Pea, I see that you are a knowledgable Boxing Junkie too. Ive learned that you can back up your knowledge, amazed at how much you know already. How old were you when you started watching?
I started on Mixed Martial Arts prior to boxing when I was about 14. Any time I take a real interest in something I will do whatever I can to learn everything I can about it. I didn't graduate to boxing until I was 16, and for the last 3 and a half years I've been hooked. I boxed amateur (AAU) until I was 17, which is when I moved to a different part of the state and personal issues caused me to give it up. That and there was no boxing gym anywhere in the viscinity. It was around that time that I really, truly started to get in-depth with my research on boxing history, as I had nothing else to take up my time, and my passion for the sport was as strong as ever. In truth, it still is, but personal issues aside, I just don't have the time to study as deeply as I used to. I'm still addicted to the sport, and especially this site. The only reason I really get on the internet anymore is to post here and watch fight videos.
Wow you must have been putting in a lot of time on the fights I thought youve been watching since you were like 4 What state are you from? I also boxed alot when i was young off and on since 8 until 20 that was the last time i boxed serious. Im 39 been watching since 8. I should watch more old fights ive seen most already but i must admit there are some available now that i had never seen before and im actually pretty new to all the fights that are available on line.
I'm orignally from Virginia but have been in North Carolina since I was 6. As I said, from about 15 to 17 I did a lot of research learning about the modern era and all of the usual suspects. After I moved is when I really started to fall out of reality and got immersed in the history of the sport. Intense studying of fighters, different eras and technical aspects of the sport took up the majority of my time. Honestly, I didn't have much else to do, having just moved and not knowing a lot of people. I've gotten my act together in the real world over the past year or so and as a result have been spending gradually less and less time studying. I'll never stop learning though, the history is far too rich to assume I know it all already, and I still have a strong passion for the sport. What I do know, I like to think I know pretty well, though.
:good Yey you are right, theres always more to learn im still learning myself and ive been a boxingjunkie for over 30 years. Mostly everything I learned as a kid was from Magazines, books,my dad,Trainers and fighters at the gyms, other old timers and just years of watching fights on Cable and live. They didnt have the internet then so know im seeing guys i havent seen in a long time or fights that werent available. I dont have to just read about them anymore. Use to be alot of fight venues in Southern California but not as much anymore. Living only a 4 hours drive from Vegas is cool too as I have checked out some great fights over there.
thats greeat to hear. They must have stopped posting just before i joined Your sounding like an old fighter
He had busy spells but was never a day to day (or even week to week sometimes) poster for sure. No surprise you remember him :good
You've taken shots but their rarely not fair or and almost always understandable. I have taken shots as well and upset "Duranimal" very much, but let's face it, Duran had some woeful incidents in his career.
Any SRL fan's on here who have money + i'd like us all to get glagged up together & promise each other that everything we've ever said on here has been in jest & done in the best possible taste & we'll finish the booze session with a re-enactment of an event in history that involves a death camp guard & those who will soon be going up in smoke
