It was but there was alot of skill involved it was like a high paced chess match. Kind of like Toney vs McCallum which was very high paced and plenty of good exchanges but still fought with alot of technique. Actually kind of thinking about it does have a few similarities, McCallum was primarily using jab like Wright and was the more active fighter, and Taylor fought in spurts like Toney but landed eye catching punches.

Wright vs McCallum or Toney would've been a fantastic technical fights which actually would be exciting I think.

I liked the one you posted a few weeks ago, Ralph Dupas - Charlie Scott. I've watched it a few times and have shared it with some guys who like to fight inside. Dupas and Scott's fight is like a "how to" video.

Another fight between two guys with good technique is Ruben Carter - George Benton.

I see what You mean, yes. There was a lot of high skill back and forth action in both fights You mentioned here.

Watch the genius Saldivar buy jabs from the much rangier Laguna.

This is a technical fan's dream, a beautiful arrangement of physical advantages being overcome by technical brilliance, especially the footwork. I won't say too much suffice to say anyone that takes these 12 minutes just to watch Saldivar's feet will not be disappointed. It's worth your time.

Often technical is taken to mean correct, which is absolutely fair, but technically correct changes with the challenge, of course. See it in action.

Man, I just watched a bit there, look at that left to the body, almost throwing it across himself to win the exchange, makes me moist

Thanks for the clip I been meaning to watch more of Salidvar, I've seen very little of him to be honest. I watched his 2nd fight ? Vs Winstone last year and that's about it sadly.

I feel like Harold Johnson's best technical performance and a hugely underrated performance generally is his out-boxing of Eddie Machen. He steps up from LHW where he's already a bit short in the jab and just out-jabs the living Christ out of Machen, who was arguably the division's best technician at that time (arguable but he's in the mix). The way he does it is weird. He just keeps himself in range and comes almost square for punching sometimes with his right leg pitched further forwards. It's so odd and pretty, and generally didn't box like that. I dearly love it although there's no quality version about.

For those that really feel brave, watch Canto try to solve the Betulio Gonzalez left.

Harold Johnson's performance against Doug Jones is also a really good one.

Saldivar was an awesome fighter. Seems to have a reputation as being a slugger when he was really a very skillful boxer. He always did well gainst the boxer-mover types. Besides the Winstone and Laguna fights I would say check out his bouts with Baby Luis, Raul Rojas, Sugar Ramos, Jose Legra. Sadly some of these videos are not in the best quality.

Hiroyuki Ebihara has some interesting technical fights. Very underrated fighter.

Gilberto Roman vs Santos Laciar rivalry is also a great one to check out for highly technical fights. The second fight is definitely great.

Tarver, Pavlik, Trinidad--especially Pavlik are high on the rewatch list, but they weren't particularly high on this list to me because Hopkins dominated them all.

I need to check out a lot of the ones people have mentioned, but I like anything with Doug Jones. I think he lacked the physicality of some heavyweights in his time, but he had the skill set. I don't know for sure, but I also suspect he didn't have the money backing him and probably had to fight on short notice as the "B" side most of the time, but he could fight.

Good video, Saldivar is one of those fighters I forget about but then I see a clip of him and admire his skills all over again.
Great call about the footwork, which I believe is boxings most underappreciated skill.
