i dont get it though, bhop use to train at my gym and i met him a bunch of times and im alittle under 6'1 and he was around my height, i can understand upgrading someones height to make them appear bigger, but why would you downgrade someones height cuz dawson is def taller than bhop and is prob atleast 6'2-6'3, but is listed everywhere at 6'1...?

Dawson will probably win, most likely a boring fight. I can easily see it going either way. The fight needs to happen, but it's kind of one of those get-it-out-of-the-way things.

I can easily see wily ole Hopkins stealing this one, but I think Dawson is just too talented, and he should be able to keep Hopkins at distance with the jab. I'd like to think he was taught a lesson by the Pascal fight about the need to stay aggressive, but I'm not convinced.

Since I'm fairly sure this wasn't the top fight on B-Hop's list, it tells me that Bute didn't want the high risk fight against Hopkins (in a fight I personally believe Hopkins would win).

Since Hopkins couldn't land Bute, he didn't really have much choice left.

I think this silences those people I've heard constantly saying over, and over, and over, "Hopkins will NEVER fight Dawson again! He bitched out of the first fight for a reason".

As for the fight itself, I still think it's a close tactical fight, and the unfinished business aspect could make it more exciting than people are expecting.

First time around I picked Hopkins by UD. I still think Dawson has the style where Hopkins can capitalize on his loss of focus that seems to happen every fight. However, when I look at that number 47 - I don't know. In my mind, 47 is starting to seem a lot closer to 50 than 46 did if that makes sense.

I still believe Hopkins can win this, but even the modern day Archie Moore is going to fall apart eventually.

I'll take Hopkins by controversial split decision where this time, Hopkins actually gets the benefit of the doubt in a close one (unlike the two Taylor fights, the first Pascal fight, and the Calzaghe fight).

I agree with this, it's what I've been saying all along. One day he will show up and be off the diving board, but I don't see it being this fight. If Hopkins wins this then alot of haters on this Forum will be embarrased.

One crucial factor that leads me to pick Hopkins is his brain, you can bet that he learned much more in those two completed rounds about Dawson, than Chad learned about him. If there's one guy you wouldn't want having a sneak peak at you before you fight, it's Bernard Hopkins.

If I was Chad, I'd of took my NC to the bank, and stayed there.

    We are in complete agreement.

    Well stated, Boxed Ears.

I actually thought Dawson won the first round and was en route to winning the 2nd. But as Jean Pascal said, you have to give Bernard the benefit of the doubt because he doesn't normally start really shifting into gear until about the 5th round or so.

The fight was going at Hopkins pace, and although he was missing for the most part, I saw Hopkins beginning to come closer on timing that lead right that he always seems to find the openings for when pitted against a southpaw.

Had the round ended, I'd have probably had 20-18 Dawson on my card, but the fight was at the exact pace Hopkins wanted, especially when one considers Dawson frequently goes into these mental lulls where he becomes almost disinterested during the middle segments of the fight. THIS is where I believe Hopkins was (and is still) bound to inflict some damage on Chad.

I'd say Hopkins is more likely to be stopped than dominated on the cards. If he's in there, he will always at least find a way to keep it ugly. The man has never been dominated, and I don't see 'Bad' Chad being the type who finally does so.

If anything, I see Hopkins finally getting a decision in a close fight.

Already gave my opinion on the show, and never made that point.

However, I may well steal it in an article I was already writing, as it will augment my existing argument.

i had multiple face to face convos with him so im not just eyeballing his height, i know for a fact hes between 6'0-6'1. Also alot of your examples are heights which have been inflated. Im talking about heights that are downgraded. Why would chad dawson be listed as 6'1 on credible sites (like boxrec.com) when he HAS to be atleast 6'2-6'3

    http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/...w-hopkins-dawson-card-highlights-busy-weekend

go to that link, dawson is ATLEAST 2 inches bigger than him and you can see their footwear. Im just saying why would you make someone shorter than they really are because i know for a FACT bhop is atleast 6'0-6'1.

    I agree.

But I will be watching, hoping it turns into a exciting game of chess somehow.

Again, you can round heights down, is one variable and you can try and make them look shorter to take concern off of other fighters in facing someone with a bigger height advantage and your camp can put out understated heights that end up on boxrec or Wikipedia or a television station that doesn't do their own measurements and takes your camp's word on it. I don't know. I also wasn't accusing you of getting anything wrong, I'm just saying you've got a lot of things going on with regard to shoe treads giving different appearances, spinal fluid differences, posture, and you can end up with heights both actually fluctuating and appearing to, to a pretty significant degree. That's all.

Sonny Liston used to wear lifts, making him seem taller.
Wlad Klitschko pretty much is always measured at and listed at 6'6/6'6.5 but he always says he's 6'5 when I hear him mention it. They have their reasons, I guess, for understatement (Paul Williams, Chad Dawson, Klitshcko, etc) as much as overstatement. It's possible Dawson just doesn't want to come across at too much of an advantage? :conf

I'm hyped for it cause i'm a huge fan of both guys....if b-hop wins he jumps another couple notches on atg list, if dawson wins he finally gets that big career defining win, then it's a rematch with pascal and back to being a higly ranked p4p fighter and from there there's a shitload of interesting fights with the top SMW's and LHW's, lotsa good young champs in both divisions!
