Fight of the Year: AJ v Klitschko. It had everything. It was what Golovkin would refer to as a Big Drama Show. Best KO - Lemieux vs Stevens (honourable mentions to Charlo vs Lubin and Eubank vs Yildirim) Best Boxing Clinic - Saunders vs Lemieux Biggest Slice of Humble Pie - DeGale vs Truax (honourable mention to O'hara Davies v Josh Taylor) Other Recommended - Thurman vs Garcia (highly competitive display of technical boxing and spiteful punching), Sor Rungvisai vs Chocolatito (Part I competitive, Part II sad), Linares vs Campbell, Josh Leather vs Glenn Foot, Benn vs Peynaud (car crash boxing, but still compulsory viewing). Biggest Letdown- Loma vs Rigo (fascinating to watch until Rigo had a tantrum. Robbed the fans.) Biggest Jokes - Chavez Jr, Adrien Broner, McGregor should all consider retirement from professional boxing.
AJ v Klitchko has to be No 1. I was at Wembley Stadium that night and it was an amazing experience. 2nd would be Conor Benn last fight. It was not great technically but was an all out war which made it exciting. 3rd choice is Groves v Chudinov. Again I was at Bramall Lane and the atmosphere was awesome.
I enjoyed the AJ v Wlad fight, it was a good event, but the fight itself wasn't special apart from round 5, 6 and 11. I don't think there is a case to say the 8 rounds in-between were anything to write home about. Just my personal opinion. It was ruined for me when Wlad decided he had done enough to win on points and backed away.
