and floyd should have get it if he did not retired for two years is not necessarily true or accurate either. for floyd to make his 2 years count, it should be against the best of the welterweights and not against lightweights coming up in weight. so who knows who floyd could have fought in that two years?
What is the criteria? I like Pacquiao fights a lot more than Mayweather and what he has done in recent years has been amazing, but that's the thing it's only been two years. Two years isn't enough to trump the whole decade. Interesting note as Manny and Floyd fans bash each other over for supremacy; I like both fighters because they are amazing athletes, very skilled, and some damn work horses. On the other end what I don't like from both is the cherry picking, you can definitely say that about both. I still think they are the best p4p in the game today, but they were definitely both protected to make the biggest $ fights out there.
lol Pac first shocked the world in 2003 when he destroyed Barrera as an underdog. Has since beaten Morales, Marquez, DLH, Hatton, Cotto, winning titles in 4 divisions including 3 lineal titles (plus he had already been champ in 3 divisions with a lineal title before that). What he did in the past 2 years clinched him that much deserved mantle. BTW, Mayweather did nothing in the past 2 years but beat an overblown and outmatched lightweight, and his resume wasn't that great anyway. Pac clearly
I agree May's resume is also pretty weak, but Pac's isn't all that great either. Pac didn't really take on any of those fighters at their best. The only one at their best was Marquez which again was a controversial decision. I'm not going to really argue it too much because really the whole problem is the industry not the fighter's. From an athletic and determination point of view Pac and May are at the top and can compare to any ATG. From a resume point of view they definitely are not in the realm of ATG's like Duran, Leonard, Chavez, etc. Unfortunately for us we saw the last of those days until the industry changes.
Gee, how about the guy who went um, I dunno, FORTY-SIX and 0 in the biggest division with the best fighters, nearly breaking the record of Rocky Marciano! Can't understand people hating on the greats. I really can't.
