Peter Jackson and Gentleman Jim going to war for 61 rounds. Oh, it was a sight! All right, I didn't see that one. But I do remember seeing at least the ending of one of the Henry Cooper v. Ali/Clay fights on TV (undoubtedly on delay of some sort), probably the second because it ended really soon on a cut, as I recall. And I remember listening to the Ernie Terrell-Ali fight with my dad on the radio. I assume it wasn't televised or we would have watched it. Those are my earliest memories of boxing.
I remember being very impressed with SRL windmill punch against Duran, their 1st fight. Felt very bad that he lost and have always rooted against Duran from then on.
A Roberto Duran fight, mid 1980's. (didnt know who he was, then) I just remember the guy fighting toe to toe, in-fighting, and seeing his head jerk upwards and his hair flop around every time he got hit. I hated looking at it. I wished he had shorter hair.
Benn Vs Mclellin - lost my Boxing Virginity to a mixture of emotion seeing one of the best battles ive ever seen to this day and also seeing the reality of the brutality of boxing
Cooper v Bugner on a black and white tv,i remember my dad screaming at the tv lol. My first memory of actually boxing is turning up to the local working mens club boxing gym and being told to tidy up ! ! the trainer said to me "if you want to train here, you need to learn to do as your told".I was 8 years old and all skin and bone, the trainer at that time was a very imposing man with a stare that could cure Constipation in seconds.
Dick Tiger vs Emile Griffith. I was a little kid and I remember my Dad telling how Griffith had killed a man in the ring (Benny Paret). So being a little kid I immediately disliked Griffith. Anyway Griffith won.
