His power in his right is real. Even when he was starting out as a pro it immediately caught my eye as something that was special.

Now he does have deficiencies and things that he could have improved upon throughout his career that for one reason or another he didn't or couldn't, but his power is legit.

If we're just talking about raw one punch power, he's right up there, in the conversation, with the all time great power punchers. Power and heart. He has those two qualities. He needed more to be an actual all time great! IMHO, of course.

The quality of opposition is relevant when your try to assess a boxer's skills and ability, but it's not very relevant when you try to assess one's punching power. A more skilled opponent won't necessarily have a better chin.
Guys like Chuvalo and McCall are proof of this. I doubt anyone on this forum has them in their top 20 / top 30 HWs, yet they are definitely among the best when it comes to being able to take a shot.

Well, thats very different, Chuvalo and McCall's chins are PROVEN against great opposition.

Wilder POWER is very different compared to a CHIN, he hasn't knocked anyone who is a PROVEN quality opponent with a great chin.

    Yeah.
His best opponent was Ortiz who was dropped by a light jab in his last fight. Now People are saying Wilder ruined him, he's old etc. Etc.

Or maybe he's just a glass jawed fighter.

Exactly what i'm trying to say, certainly getting KOed twice isnt good for anyone but Ortiz was never known as an iron jawed fighter.

So, your honest opinion is Luis Ortiz is a glass-jawed fighter? You're going with that?

Ortiz going down a second time had nothing to do with the fact that he ate a monster left hand to the temple got right up and couldn't seem to get his equilibrium back for a while?

Luis Ortiz just has a glass jaw?

That's your expert opinion on the matter?

After 349 amateur wins. One stoppage loss to Felix Savon 23 years ago and two stoppage losses to Deontay Wilder as a pro ... he's just been a glass-jawed fighter all along?

Seriously? That's your contribution to the thread?

Either you aren't being honest, or you don't know squat about boxing.

He wasn't? In the last 23 years, amateur and pro, name all the times Luis Ortiz's chin betrayed him?

Can't wait to see this expansive list.

I never said Luis's chin "failed" him, I said he was never proven or known to be a iron chinned fighter.

Also Ortiz's opposition was... not exactly the best. It really doesn't help his case on having a good chin when your opponents aren't exactly elite finishers.

Other than Felix Savon and Deontay Wilder - two famous punchers - name all the times Luis Ortiz's chin has failed him.

You only have about 400 amateur and pro fights to choose from. Knock yourself out. (No pun intended.)

If he doesn't have a chin, it should be easy for you to back that up with 400 or so boxing matches to choose from.

    Reread my response.

I NEVER said his chin failed him, I mean't his chin was never quite tested against top opposition, so why should it count for Wilders power when its known Ortiz's chin isnt exactly elite?

He can punch but his KO's are all over NON top types is in the case of Ortiz, 40+ I'd give him a 9. For a ten he has to prove it vs the best.

Not sure any heavyweight champion has had greater single-punch power than that of Wilder's straight rights.

All time great power. He is the epitome of a KO Artist. Every fight out he had one plan only and invested every motion toward it.
