I think the fight was rightly scored 7-5 for Hopkins by one of the judges, but you could easily make a case for 6-6 or 8-4 for BHop. Pascal IMO was up 3-1 after 4 but the first three rounds were really close. If I remember correctly I gave him rounds 1, 3, and 4 with Hopkins taking round 2. Then round 5 was another close one but I gave it to Hopkins. Rounds 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are all Hopkins rounds but I think one of them was really close. Round 11 and 12 are Pascal rounds but I guess 11 was kind of close. Pascal fought valiantly and had Hopkins hurt in both rounds 4 and 12. At the end of the day Hopkins was just too smart for him. Too mentally strong. He imposed his greatness on the young champ.
Could have easily been a draw... People are blind! :fire PS: The Hbo team should be ashamed of themselves!
My feelings at the end of the fight was that I think a split decision, a majority win/draw or even a draw would more reflect this fight. I respect opinions of others but it was my feeling at the ring bell.
1= 10-9 pascal 2= 10-9 pascal 3= 10-9 hopkins 4= 10-9 pascal 5= 10-9 pascal 6= 10-9 hopkins 7= 10-9 hopkins 8= 10-9 hopkins 9= 10-9 hopkins 10= 10-9 hopkins 11= 10-9 pascal 12= 10-9 pascal 114-114 Draw!
I don't know what kind of patriotic job that HBO did yesterday because I was listening the fight in french but all I know that no one I know in the building in Montreal with no sound had card like 117-112 or so. Dan Rapheal was one of the hardest defender of Hopkins first fight and scored 114-114 ring side. I have nothing to be ashamed of my scorecard with 114-113 Pascal. Pascal and Hopkins gave a hell of a fight hard to score.
Harold Lederman had Pascal up big through the first half of the fight, but all the HBO team could talk about was Hopkins greatness. Steward went even as far as to say while Hopkins was behind on their cards, "this is the best I've seen Hopkins since the Trinidad fight."atsch:think:-( If you're a knowleadgeable boxing fan, having to listen to the team is more than sad, its embarrassing. They do it everytime. They begin the broadcast with a clear agenda on who there are going to favor, and they give it the best shot they can to stick to that agenda, even if it means that they sound like complete fools to the real boxing fan. The HBO team was on their A game last night sticking to that agenda.:nut
It happens alot in boxing. Whenever there is controversy where there is alot of venom being spilled at judges for a previous fight score, boxing often tries to make up for it in a rematch fight. It happened in Holyfield vs Lewis. Just about everyone thought Lewis was robbed in the first fight. When the rematch happened, just about everyone in the media had it within a one or two point victory for either side. Many had Holyfield beating Lewis in the rematch......yet the official judges took it upon themselves to makeup for the first fight call and had Lewis winning the rematch by wide scores.:nut
Hopkins clearly won the fight, I had it 7-5 Hopkins, and regardless what anyone says both of those KD's, should have been scored as such per the rules of boxing. He was displaced because he was punched and lost his footing, which then led to him putting his gloves on the canvas. I guess I could understand the first one being ruled a slip, but the second was clearly a KD. Pascal - 1, 2, 4, 11, 12 Hopkins - 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
draw 4-1 after 5 4-4 after 8 6-4 after 10 6-6 after 12 1st KD should have scored 2nd KD should not have the right by hop did land but pascal clearly fell from his miss thru 5 I thought Pascal had him, he was moving he was hurting him he was landing and making him miss from the ring walk to the touch gloves to the early going I though Pascal got in his head and made him fold then from 6 to 10 Hopkins landed clean and often and Pascal did nothing at all in 11 it was close but I was swayed by some of Pascals left hooks in 12 Pascal had him in big trouble and like Revish vs Sadam Ali on friday he let him off the hook overall a worse fight than the first but maybe more interesting in the sense that there was a lot of macho bravado taunting mental games **** going on thru the first half had it a draw almost identical to Lederman just switch the 11th
yeah steward pissed me off he said hopkins dominated every round when he said early in the fight pascal was ahead i think kellerman was the best
Actually if you look at the second knockdown, you can clearly see that Pascal went down from the wild swing and miss he took on Hopkins. The momentum of having missed Hopkins with that wild swing took Pascal to the canvas. The ref made the right call both times imo, and it would have been a damn shame if either of those knockdowns would have been the difference on the scorecards had the judges had it closer and they've been ruled knockdowns.
