That is a hot take… I always felt Robinson could deliver just as devastating a shot on Duran as Hearns however that fight had it not happened would have a lot of differing opinions (I think Duran could’ve won) it had the air of an aberration to me.
Based on the thread titled Harry Greb Footage, it wasn't until the 20th century that he was started to be considered great. This theory is based on numerous shows, books and articles that listed the best MW, SMW, LHW and HW and he's never mentioned as top ten in any of thise divisions yet he's ranked as an ATG by observers who have NEVER SEEN FOOTAGE OF ANY OF HIS FIGHTS.
I know he was a bit past it, but in the Basilio bout there are some strategies shown working against Robinson on a stylistic level that imo Duran would absolutely pull off better than him. I've been thinking of writing a long 'devil's advocate' post as a thought experiment.
I’d really like to see it, you know your boxing and I like to read what you’ve got to say, I’m not a Duran scholar so it’d be good for me - oh what’s my line again… “Big” James blah blah blah Foreman bad etc.
