Interesting match up. It may come down to whoever has the stouter jawbone. At any rate, I will go out on a limb and pick Kiladze. The Georgian just seems to be slicker. Kownacki himself said that Kiladze was an orthodox version of Szpilka but unlike Szpilka, Kiladze has some significant pop in his punches and probably has enough ring smarts not to clown around when he gets hurt. I'm thinking Kiladze by UD.
I haven't actually seen Kiladze fight, so I'm going a bit casual on this and looking at Boxrec. I guess logic says if Kalenga can ice him then a much bigger dude should do too, although boxing really doesn't operate like that.
He is slicker but I don't think he'll deal with Kownacki's pressure well. He has a bad habit of dropping his left after he jabs, I can see him getting caught by the right hand. His chin will also likely fail him, he was KTFO with one punch at cruiserweight. Anyone wanting to see a brutal KO should watch his fight with Kalenga, was out cold for the full 10.
If I remember correctly Kiladze backed up directly in front of Kalenga and dropped his right at the same time. If he didn't learn his lesson from that, not much hope for him against Kownacki. I think Kiladze has been working with Freddie Roach and Marvin so maybe he'll be squared away for this fight.
Interesting indeed! Haven't seen quite enough of either to pick it but this is a perfect truth serum matchup for both. The winner is maybe kinda legit.
Maybe, I've not seen any of his most recent fights, maybe that flaw is still there, maybe not. Should be an interesting fight. We don't know how good Kownacki really is the Szpilka win while note worthy isn't anything to get excited about. Overall I think even if Kownacki wins this he won't be able to compete at the top level, he looks too crude.
is anyone currently at hw more than kinda legit? they are either ancient, young and unproven, or never was. worst hw division ever at present.
That's a decent fight! I'm glad Showtime will at least stream it online on Facebook/YouTube. I think Kownacki (#13 WBC) will catch Kiladze (#15 IBF) at some point - frankly I see no other option. Kownacki has good handspeed and he carries power. Also he is known to have some chin - and that can't be really said about Kiladze, who was knocked out by a single punch by Kalenga. And it wasn't a sneaky shot or something - it was telegraphed from all the way down! The only thing that worries me is Adam's belly - he simply tends to get fat between fights. He improved for Szpilka (242 pounds - his best weight since... 2010!), but he worked with dietetician for that fight and I'm not sure they're still working together... But he was sparring Povetkin in November, so he should be fit. Either way - Kownacki by KO or TKO.
A lot of the Eastern European and Central Asian HWs are accomplished amateur fighters. I think the division actually has a lot of potential if they fight each other. There parity makes it interesting. Then there are some talented cruiserweights who will probably move up to heavyweight. The Kownacki vs Kiladze fight is a good example. Who exactly would the oddsmakers have as the favorite and who would be the underdog?
Kiladze is not totally like Szpilka. Kiladze does have smooth elusive footwork but he also hits harder and has more ring savvy than Szpilka. I suspect that Kiladze will be the best opponent Kownacki has fought to date.
His best win is perennial CW journeyman Ismail Abdoul - the one time he stepped in with someone who even remotely represented a world class fighter he was brutally KO'd in less than 2 rounds. This content is protected
