Tarver lost that first fight close but no he did not win.
Roy was thirty four years old fighting in a style that relied heavily on lightning reflexes to be successful.
Name me a boxer that was as fast when they are approaching 35 as they were when they were 24.
Nobody.

 

Overrated: Canelo (Canelo is probably the most overrated fighter of all time), Floyd, Golovkin, Loma, Pac.

Underrated: Mike Spinks, Vincente Saldivar, Carlos Ortiz, Antonio Cervantes

 

Underrated could be a fighter we have never heard of.

 

Not sure about acting, but He was a pretty good commentator for Showtime too. I think They ditched him after He failed PED test in his comeback.

 

Over rated post prison Tyson. Ruddock of the same period
Under rated. Sumbu Kalambey. Marlon Starling.

 

Hate to say it, but Salvador Sanchez.
One might use the "he boxes down to the level or his opponent," or "he had no prior info on the guy" excuse once maybe twice, but there were too many life or death to run of the mill defences for him to receive some of the praise he gets.

Underrated: Henry Cooper, Lloyd Honeyghan, Frank Bruno, Howard Winstone, Tommy Farr, Jim Watt, Tony Sibson, Michael Watson

 

Len Harvey is IMO the most underrated British fighter of all time

 

Pretty much agree, so little footage of him except his ko loss to Mills.

Shame we can´t see his fight with John Henry Lewis who also greatly underrated.

The great Jock McAvoy (the last man Harvey beat) should also be added to the underrated list.

 

Another superb fighter who i think doesn't quite get his dues is Freddie Steele.. Steele turned pro at the age of 13... at 105 pounds! Blows my mind that just a few years later he would morph into a world champion and all time great puncher at middleweight.. was the only man ever to stop the great Vince Dundee in a one-sided beat down.. & one of only two men to stop Ken Overlin also.

Steele defeated a lot of other top fighters in a very short time .. Ceferino Garcia, Fred Apostoli, Gus Lesnevich, Gorilla Jones, Babe Risko, and Solly Kreiger.. & he only had 5 defeats in 142 fights. Imagine that today?

Should be a lock for everybody's top 10 MWs.

 

Roy was special for 15 years.

I personally think that Joe is hugely overrated by many.
