Set up a universal governing body (FIBA) and elect representatives from each respective board of each country.

    Disqualify all 'charity' governing bodies.

Nominate each champion to face off in mini tournaments. Rid all non essential titles.

Universal Governing body to recieve applications for voluntary title defences. Applications to be approved by majority decision.

Universal Governing Body to generate own ratings in each division. Appeals can be administered via the 'sanction fee' which is to always be fair and never exceed 10% of gross profit per show.

Magazines/ Websites and Broadcasters to ignore all titles unless the FIBA have approved.

FIBA to have there own website where fans can find out about each of the champion with links to their websites, videos and also a brief career/life story.

Music and beer at all boxing shows between rounds.

Screens at all boxing shows where possible.

Greater care paid to production of programmes.

Consensus scoring to be put in place with five judges for all major title fights. Referees to be approved by FiBa prior to world title performances.

Oh yeah... this would start sorting the **** out.

  3. I would guarentee the quality of up and comers and the sport in general would improve 10 fold if there were better main stream television coverage. Who wants to look **** on tv, mainstream tv would promote the fighters image and recognition.

Boxers are hardly regarded as professional athletes in society, there is little win in this sport unless you're a top 10.

I would also add that the champ needs to defend his title a minimum of 3 times per year...

:-( I reckon boxing should go to 11/13 rounds, this would near enough guarantee a winner all the time, what you are saying is reminiscent of Prizefighter, i like prizefighter but **** that paying to watch pbf fight pacman over 3 or 6 rounds as you suggest. I want 15 rounds of watching these greats if poss let alone 6.

I agree with J Thomas post, and a few others have made some good points, remember guys were suggesting concepts that will improve boxing for the masses not for a few, boxing needs overhauling asap. Your Arums/ Warrens/ De la hoya's have all done some good for boxing but now we need to get rid of the stranglehold promoters have on the sport. There is too much emphasis on the 'L=0' aswell, a couple of losses makes things more intresting imo.

    Great list.

One suggestion: Combine some weight classes at lower weights. Create a Super Heavy division for 250 lbs and up.

Watching Valuev fight Tua would be a mismatch.

Second suggestion: More tournaments, with fights happening more frequently as long as the fighters are healthy. If they are not healthy they are bumped from the tourney.

I would also keep the ring size identical for all categories and fights. A 20' standard ring. Fighters would always be allowed to wear the gloves they so desire in any given fight. However, the size of the gloves would always be pre-determined, based on fighting weights.

Taking into account all I have mentioned on this thread, the only important remaining issue to negociate, would be the venue for a fight.

i agree with the point about taking controll away fro promoters i.e a fighter hires a promoter for fight not a promoter having a fighter tied to a lets say 6 fight deal
however the long deals with promoters offers some finacial stability for fighters

Unfortunately for things to change from the actual situation, boxers may need to create a ''players' association'' just like they have for most team sports.

An association under which boxers elect a governing & representative board amongst its active fighters, that would then negociate with the sole independent organization, promoters and tv stations in order to create and implement the possible suggestions mentioned in this thread.
