sergio martinez was ranked #6 by the ring and williams #5 before the fight. martinez demolished williams in 2 rounds. imo, martinez is now deserving of at least a top 3 P4P ranking after his impressive wins this year against pavlik and williams and since the other guys below pac and floyd, holds a shakey position from 3 and up. other's would actually push him over floyd since floyd was just fighting once a year while other's have the opinion that he is even a better pound for pound fighter than pac. opinions please...
you should look at ripcity's list. mine is: 1. pac 2. martinez 3. floyd = due to last 2 fights and inactivity.
well, this is actually inspired by his thread and i want to know the general esb opinion. i should have included an option where floyd is still the #1 p4p to check a more detailed result. but i am actually more interested on how high people are gonna put martinez after his impressive set of wins.
SSM was ranked #3 by the ring before fighting Floyd, after the Floyd fight he was called shot, old etc. Just because Martinez beats number 5, Williams, doesn't make him greater than Floyd or Pac p4p. Anyway the ring p4p rankings will always be a very subjective ranking, p4p Pac is much better than Martinez, he's beat men much heavier than he and his resume is much better IMO. BTW against Cintron Williams could have lost had Cintron not pulled that stunt, he never had defense against good boxers
martinez did not enough for me to get the third spot. if he beats sturm then he will be top 3 1. Pac 2. Money 3. Wlad Klitschko 4. martinez 5. Cotto 6. marquez 7. Montiel 8. Vitali Klitschko 9. Pongsaklek Wonjongkam 10. Pascal
My P4P list before last night: 01 Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao Current Record: 52-3-2 with 38 stoppage wins. Current Titles: WBO welterweight champion. Comments: Won an official 8th world title in an 8th weight-class with a comfortable points victory over Antonio Margarito to reclaim his place at the very top of the pound-for-pound tree. Win over Margarito follows points victory over Joshua Clottey, a dominant 12th round stoppage win over Miguel Cotto and a spectacular two-round destructive of Ricky Hatton in the last 18 months. 02 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather Record-41-0-0 with 25 stoppages wins. Current Titles: None Comments: Dominant victory over the then-welterweight champion Shane Mosley following an easy points victory over current lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. However, those wins combined are not enough for him to overcome the body of work Pacquiao has ammassed in the last 18 months, and sees him sitting behind hte Filipino sensation in 2nd place. ¹ 03 0r Steelhammer' Wladimir Klitschko Current Record: 55-3-0 with 49 stoppage wins. Current Titles: IBF/WBO/IBO & Ring Magazine heavyweight champion. Comments: Easy 10 round knockout victory over replacement Samuel Peter in September to follow excellent, dominant stoppage wins over top heavyweights Eddie Chambers & Ruslan Chagaev sees him sit high-up in the pound-for-pound stakes. ² 04 Andre 'Son Of God' Ward Current Record: 22-0-0 with 13 stoppage wins. Current Titles: WBA super-middleweight champion. Comments: The almost flawless break down of the then-Super Six favourite & then-#1 super-middleweight Mikkel Kessler - combined with another flawless performance against Allan Green, sees him rise through the P4P ranks. He sits highly as - in my opinion - the best fighter in the world in a stacked weight division and has all the makings of a future #1 P4P star. ³ 05 Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez Current Record: 45-2-2 with 24 stoppage wins. Current Titles: WBC & Ring Magazine middleweight champion. Comments: Ran the highly-rated Paul Williams awfully close - and in my opinion actually won a close fight - back in December of last year, and followed that strong showing up with a comfortable win over Kelly Pavlik when he moved up to challenge the 160lb champ. ⁴ 06 Juan Manuel 'Dinamita' Marquez Current Record: 51-5-1 with 37 stoppage wins. Current Titles: WBO & Ring Magazine lightweight champion. Comments: Moved up from 135lbs to 147 to take on the returning Floyd Mayweather and was barely in the fight. However, difficult to penalize him for that performance above his best weight, but his best days look behind him which has seen him slip a few places in the P4P charts in recent times. ⁵ 07 Paul 'The Punisher' Williams Current Record: 39-1-0 with 27 stoppage wins. Current Titles: None Comments: In the last 18 months, he dominated a past-prime Winky Wright at 160, and edged - perhaps controversially - late-replacement Sergio Martinez at the same weight last December, before a relatively poor performance against Kermit Cintron, where he was bailed out by the strange incident which saw Cintron fall out of the ring and fail to continue, with Williams being awarded a technical decision win after 4. His poor performance in that short fight plus the vulnerabilities shown in his close-fight with Martinez has seen him drop a couple of places in recent months. ⁶ 08 Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire Current Record: 24-1-0 with 16 stoppage wins. Current Titles: None Comments: Can count himself lucky to be featuring in a P4P top 10 after the quality of his opposition in the last 18 months. However, he did win an interim title at super-flyweight and ranks highly head-to-head, and it's that ability and potential that secures his place in his list as opposed to recent accomplishments and resumé. ⁷ 09 Tim 'Desert Storm' Bradley Current Record: 26-0-0 with 11 stoppage wins. Current Titles: WBO light-welterweight champion. Comments: Initially unified the division against the speedy, big-hitting Kendall Holt. Then came a controversial no-contest with Nate Campbell, who claimed he couldn't continue after 3 rounds when cut, with Bradley having won all the rounds up to that point. Dominated unbeaten challenger Lamont Peterson and comfortably beat another unbeaten fighter, Luis Abregu, in his debut fight at 147lbs. His recent accomplishments in the division combined with his current standing at 140lbs in a division of solid talent sees him sneak into the lower end of this list. ⁸ 10 Jean Pascal Current Record: Stepped up to 175lbs and claimed the WBC title with a pair of comfortable wins over Adrian Diaconu before a big win over the unbeaten Chad Dawson, who was highly P4P in the lead up to that fight. He has more than earned his place in recent times in this list of the world's top fighters. ¹ Will box Dereck Chisora on 11th December for the IBF/WBO/IBO & Ring Magazine heavyweight titles. ² Will box Sakio Bika on 27th November for the WBA super-middleweight title in a non-Super Six bout. ³ Will box Paul Williams on 20th November for the WBC & Ring Magazine middleweight titles at a 158lb catchweight. ⁴ Will box Michael Katsidis on 27th November for the WBO & Ring Magazine lightweight titles. ⁵ Will box Sergio Martinez on 20th November for the WBC & Ring Magazine middleweight titles at a 158lb catchweight. ⁶ Will box Wladimir Sidorenko on 4th December for the interim WBA bantamweight title. ⁷ Will box Devon Alexander on 29th January for the WBC/WBO light-welterweight titles. WBC title will become vacant if Bradley wins. ⁸ Will box Bernard Hopkins on 18th December for the WBC & Ring Magazine light-heavyweight titles. After that fight, Martinez probably moves up to #4, Williams down to either #10 or drops out completely. [I don't know who would replace him at this point, possibly one of Cotto/Pong/Montiel].
1. Pacquiao. 2. Mayweather. 3. Martinez. The top two spots are cemented at the minute...they are at least a level above everyone else on the list. But Martinez is very deserving of the #3 spot. P.S. In my opinion, a Mosley victory is better than a victory over Williams, however impressive the victory was (not including the Mosley that drew with Mora).
not that i believe that it would not get as many or more votes as the third option (1.martinez 2. pac 3. floyd) but i am more interested on how sergio was rated after last night since some posters in other threads have him as high as no.1 already.
1. Pacquiao 2. Mayweather 3. Martinez 4. Marquez (if he defeats Katsidis in a stunning fashion he deserves to be p4p top again). I think if Mayweather can beat a Middleweight Martinez and become a 6 weight world champ, he deserves to be p4p no. 1. again. If Mayweather doesn't fight Pac or Martinez next, he is 100% coward.
