I'll betcha you can't find many examples. He was in tough against Vanderpool but wasn't trailing, and he dominated Reid throughout the bout. I overrated Lacy, giving him a 60% chance to beat Calzaghe. Worst call I've made this decade. Still, he beat some tough people without having a lot of pro fights, and he displayed inhuman courage in 3/06. A shame he has fallen to this point, but hopefully he has saved money and can live comfortably. Kessler doesn't strike me as unbeatable, but I regard him as the clear No. 1. He needs to step up the competition, though. He also may have major problems against Andre Dirrell, although Andre still has a lot to prove before he's ready for that fight.
I had him trailing against Vanderpool. I also thought he was losing to Donnell Wiggins way back when before the TKO. I don't remember what he was doing against Ruben Williams but I think I had it close...Not quite sure. I thought Lacy was vastly overrated and while I wasn't glad to see him soundly smacked down by Calzaghe, I was happy to have been right for once Dirrell is a name I've forgotten about as well. While Dirrell has all the skills, I've seen quite a few lapses in his concentration and focus..and while I'm not worried about his chin, I still remember him looking uncomfortable after taking some shots from Anthony Hanshaw. Dirrell should beat Inkin though if that fight ever comes to pass.
This was actually the fight I was looking forward to the most this month.. Not only am I a JT fan and wanted to see him rebound back after his two losses to Pavlik, but it was nice seeing him fight his old Olympic teammate.. Taylor looked good and needed this fight I think to rebuild his confidence.. He even mentioned that night that he took a little time off to see if he still had his love for boxing.. He looked good fighting at 168, and it was a WBC eliminator, so I'm pretty confident he'll be fighting the winner of the Froch/Pascal fight whom are fighting for the vacant WBC title..
Agree to disagree on Lacy. Don't have the desire to track down links at the moment, although perhaps BoxRec could help. Yeah, Dirrell has more holes in his game than Ward, but he also has the greater upside. I think Ward is closer to his peak, but Dirrell has more potential. A focused and seasoned Dirrell could be a nightmare for Kessler, but who knows how much Andre will improve and at what rate.
Well agreed. I don't think we're in disagreement about the end result which is that Lacy was ruined by Calzaghe. Dirrell seems more focused on his career and is fighting better competition. Ward seems to go into hiding a lot or at least is doing a good job staying a hidden commodity. I think Dirrell will be a world champion before Ward..even though they're both intriguing prospects. I make no qualms about being a Danny Jacobs fanatic but by the time he's ready, Kessler will be at LHW.
Taylor's going to win a title at 168 and could be the king there. Lacy may win a piece of the title but probbaly won't do much signifance there.
