Your opinion of Lucian Bute - the man, the warrior - is Bute good for boxing?

Forget about how good Bute is as a fighter or where he ranks in the division. How good is he for boxing?

Is he gunning for the best, win or lose, never dodging the best out there and giving his all, daring to be great?

Or is he milking that belt for all it's worth?

    Or something in between?

And has your opinion of Bute changed? Are you a fan, a hater or a hugger, or are you indifferent to him because he's not really relevant?

The S6 has made competing in his own division tough, but he's 30 ****ing years old. And he's not doing **** right now. Anyone ranking him above Ward or Froch at this point is just being silly.

I think he is good. I don't have an opinion on where he stands in boxing right now because the super 6 is tied up and Pascal is all tied up. Once he starts taking on those guys or avoiding those guys will we really know.

My opinion of Bute has changed radically. This was me a few years back:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=599203&postcount=1

Now, I think Bute is a lot more interested in maximising income whilst minimising risk, instead of trying to be the best or daring to be great. I am disappointed with Bute, the man, the warrior. I don't really think he is particularly good for boxing. More of an entertainer making money than a warrior or a fighter aiming for greatness.

To his credit, Bute did insist on rematching Andrade, though...

Maye Bute should start doing what Martinez does, and start calling out guys from 2 or 3 divisions under him. The linear middleweight "champ" recently accused a junior welterweight of ducking him. Maybe Bute should call out Dizinzurik, and when Diz says "**** no, you're to big," Bute can accuse him of ducking. That **** seems to work for Martinez.

Or maybe Bute should just man up and move up a division like Martinez did, aiming to fight the best and become Champ?

Bute cannot be favourably compared to Martinez.

This situation merely points out the hypocrisy that runs rampant among boxing fans. If Bute moved up, you'd be on here critisizing him for leaving a strong division for a weaker one. If he fought a LHW at 170-172, you'd be on here critisizing him for the catchweight. If Pavlik had beat Martinez, the next fight would have been Pavlik/Bute, and you'd be on here accusing Bute of picking on a "smaller one-dimensional-podder." Martinez accused a junior ****ing welterweight of ducking him, and no one said ****. The double standards are pathetic.

any boxer who has thousands of fans and brings the casual sport fan towards boxing is good for the sport.

Bute is one of the major elements in the rebirth of boxing's popularity in Montreal

    :huh

I wouldn't be accusing Bute of anything if he fought better fighters at 175lbs than he's been fighting at 168lbs, like he could have.

I've been requesting he do just that for a while now, since there haven't been and still aren't any good fights for him at 168lbs.

He's milking his title that's for sure. Still anybody who can draw 10-20K people regardless of opponent cannot be bad for boxing. Surely he draws in the average sportsfan in Canada who normally wouldn't be interested in boxing and that is good.

His reputation among hardcore fans is going down fast though.

Yeah, well, sure... but that's also a bit like saying that a demagogue is good for politics because he's more popular with the masses than your typical politician that has long since made people switch off.

What I'm really saying is that Bute could have been great for boxing but chose to be great for his bank account instead.

Hmmm.... instead of pulling in more and more casual boxing fans every time, his support is actually dopping. Interbox's plan of turning Bute into the next Ricky Hatton is failing. If Bute had been fighting the best do or die, daring to be great, he'd be pulling in an average of 18kplus right now, instead of 16k-13k-11k and dropping.

the guy is on Mayweather's level. Had the chance to give his country it's biggest fight in years, in Canada's case ever, and ducked out of it. He avoided Pascal in order to make mandatory against Brinkley. Beyond pathetic.

Yap... that was pathetic. And what makes things worse is that instead of taking on Bhops next, he's taking on an even worse fighter than Brinkley... unbelievable!!!
