Maybe Mercer does something; but he was never able to close the deal in the past, I don't see why he'd be able to do so today.

Man,give me a break! Bobby Cyzz was competitive with Hollyfield.Cyzz couldnt hold a candle to Valuev.
Lewis had a very close fight with Mavrovic.I bet my house that Valuev would have won 9 out of 10 fights against the Croat.
Riddick Bowe? Twice did he get his ass handed by Golota, a fighter who for sure didnt and doesnt play in Valuev's league.

Dont get me wrong though! I dont think that Valuev is such an outstanding fighter. No,he isnt.He is a decent heavy who can hold his own against some of the top fighters.
He would be massacred by either Klitschko brother though.

Anyway! I guess that you got my point,eh!

foreman's 90's career was mostly smoke&mirrors: beating up 20 bums or shot fighters, then getting beaten to a bloody pulp by stewart, showing his improved chin vs. holyfield, and getting outboxed by morrison and schulz. the only real achievement is koing moorer, why he went down from that shot i don't know, he took all those rights before quite well, but then suddenly :zzz...
i think these fighters of today would beat 90's foreman: wald, vitlay, ibragimov, chagaev.
toss up fight: peter, brewster, thompson, byrd, valuev.

The 90's was a better crop, you've got Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe and Tyson (briefly) vs the Klits that's 4 against 2 in top quality guys, then you have Byrd, Ruiz, Golota, Mercer, Tua, Ibeabuchi (briefly) and Rahman as the also rans vs Valuev, Chagaev, Povetkin, Ibragimov, Gomez, Peter and Maskaev (had to struggle to name a seventh tbh). I think the 90's bunch there are a little better, call it B's vs B-'s. You could nitpick that little list but it's just an example.

Indeed. These top contenders from the 90s - Mercer, Morrison, etc. - would beat just about everybody else.

The HWs of this decade are not bad compared to the 80s, but do suck if compared to the 90s, and 70s.

As of today, I only see 11 relevant fighters in the class.
    1 Wlad
    2 Vitali
    3 Chagaev
    4 Valuev
    5 Povetkin
    6 Gomez
    7 Haye
    8 Peter
    9 Ibragimov
    10 Arreola
    11 Dimitrenko

The heavyweight division today has PROVEN itself as the worst of any era... seriously. David Haye is being hyped to the moon, a faded gatekeeper in Jameel McCline almost beat the ( at the time ) number 2 HW in the world, and a SHOT Shannon Briggs finally becomes a titlist.

The heavyweight division is at it's absolute worst, and the Klitschkos will rule until they retire or stick around far too long.

I have no problem with today's heavyweight division. I'm glad the Klits are in charge.

Exellent post! that sums about what there is to say about HW today!

Not before there comes an american HW who can make sound in this division.. HW will be a "weak division" and the same aparently goes for CW and SMW:-(

LOL, you'er right, i did it quick, and yes I did mean to mention those fights, the point i was trying to make was those arent ATG fights by any means nor do they include ATG fighters, but lord beyond a couple of fights it seems to be better than we're getting from the divisio now.
