I remember a few years back when there was a sort of "feud" between the more old school boxing journos and the new youtube upstarts. Back then I supported the youtubers but nowadays I wish I hadn't. They are utter dog **** are IFL in my opinion.
Agreed. The guy only started following boxing when Naz was fighting Barrera and was watching his VHS's. Bunce and all were heavily involved in the sport in the 70s, including boxing themselves
I used to watch IfL pretty consistently, used to watch every video. Now haven't watched anything on IfL for about a year and a half. If I want to see a press conference video I'll go to SecondsOut or another platform that has clearer audio and better footage. I don't particularly like nor dislike Kugan. He seems to think he is a bit of a heavyweight influential personality in boxing circles and with his platform I guess he kind of is. But he has delusions of grandeur. On occasion though, due to his rapport with certain fighters and promoters he does deliver some brilliant interviews.
He’s got predictable and boring imo.....nothing against him as a person but doesn’t really do it for me anymore he’s to wrapped up in joking about.
Not Journalism, just influencer marketing and they are used by promoters and boxers as they never step out of line or ask anything controversial, they have these amateurs completely under the thumb. Kugan himself has succeeded through association and funding from Eddie Hearn who recognised early the potential of social media, it's no coincidence they are both from Essex. Nobody reads papers anymore but before it was old boys like Colin Hart you had to keep sweet, if you pissed them off they would give you a bad write up and the newspaper could cut your coverage. If a you tuber steps out of line at a presser he doesn't get invited back, so things have changed significantly and it's a much better situation now for promoters and boxers.
He is a bit of an arrogant dick and you can imagine the way he walks round the press conferences like the big I am in his branded hoodies but nobody in boxing gets the sort of content he does, simple as that. He must be trusted and not gossip behind fighters backs, no way would these fighters have him in their houses, hotel rooms etc. He gets Hearn to literally drive him to shows FFS. Man must have something about him. Still dodgy whatever happened to James Helder. And yes for a proper press conference I will always use SecondsOut too, they basically stand next to him yet have such a better camera.
That's the key for me. I still watch IFL interviews because i'm interested in the interviewee. I'm no fan of Kugan but I find him the best interviewer they have, although Andy (I'm too in awe of who i'm talking to to ask proper questions) & Umar (i'm going to just stop you there to give my own opinion) have both got better.
Don’t watch videos, not got the attention span so listen to a load of pods. ifl just looks like click bait and matchroom propaganda sadly
Pretty much turned into Hearns mouthpiece of nonsense. Havent listened to an interview for a while so don't know if it's still the same unchallenged shite? Also the WWE O'hara McKenna set up was laughable. Basically it's turning into the exact opposite of what it was all meant to be about.
I don't see how, considering he covers Warren's fighters too. Hearn says the same stuff over and over to every 'journo' he talks to. Kugan just gets it first that's all.
IFL has its flaws, the click bait titles, the pandering to certain people when interviewing them and the worst being the crap sound and picture in certain videos But id rather they be around than not be around Some good info dropped at times and the interviews can be good when they tend to trust or get on with each other Example being Dillian Whyte I dont really like him but i love him and Kugans interviews
