As a fighter. At 170 and 185. I'm not a MMA expert, but I've always been very impressed when I've seen him.
Very good ground game but his striking is a joke. He needs to improved his stand up or he won't do anything in the ufc.
Good fighter. I have no idea why he didn't try more often to take GSP to the ground. I think he should aim for a MW run.
I think he might be better at 185, the wight cut might be too much and is affecting his performance because he hasn't looked good at ww in the ufc but yet beat the poop out of henderson at 185 in SF. That's why Henderson prob didn't go back to 185 the weight cut for him at his age affects his preformance too much.
He's a perfect blend of American wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Had two very good fights with Mayhem and Hendo, beating Hendo after a shaky moment and almost getting submitted by Mayhem. His stand up needs alot of work.
He is tied into a five fight deal at 170 I think. The cut kills him and he has nothing left. He is very very very good at 185 though. One the the best in my opinion and a viable threat to Silva... It will never happen though. He should never have agreed to 170 but at the time I think he just wanted a challenge. I think the death of his father will be the end of him too sadly :verysad I have a lot of time for Shields. Lynchburg
Poor stand up, really poor but he is a tough bloke who sticks to you. His takedowns aren't inspring, they are executed cleanly and we don't see amazing trips and throws but when he gets hands on you he sticks and is hard to get off. That is when his grappling takes over. His stand up was greatly exposed in his last 2 fights in the UFC. GSP dominated without getting out of first gear and then he got KTFO.
some of the worst striking i have ever seen, not just in combat sports but in any combat from the ring to the schoolyard. GSP got his eye swelled up by this guy and that is enough evidence for me to assume Diaz will mess GSP up standing and sub him if it went to the ground.
