Him and Witherspoon are such painful what ifs, but even with what we got, it's clear they were elite. What's your take on the Pink?

Great jab, great chin, mediocre defense.

Another bum who made Mike Tyson look invincible in an era when every bum became a champion even Trevor Berbick

ATG jab, above average right hand power, granite chin, but I don't think he had much varied offence and he was hittable aswell.

I do think though that for a brief period that Thomas was the best Heavyweight in the world when he beat Witherspoon.

Very good boxer who had substance abuse issues.

His jab, much like Witherspoon's, would trouble Larry. The difference would be in Spoon's cross-arm defense, which posed problems for Holmes that Thomas's more conventional defense wouldn't have brought forth.

My gut feel is that Holmes would rally late to squeak out a decision, but it's razor-thin.

    Yes I'll second that.
Big shame his career went the way it did.

    Great, near prime-Holmes jab.

As lame as Riddick Bowe could be as far as discipline, Thomas seems to have been worse. I mean that in the amount of talent wasted. Thomas had all the tools to take Holmes' place around 1984 (especially if Holmes would have given him a chance), could probably have given Mike Tyson a much better run for his money...but his extra-cirricular activities and toss up motivation sunk him.

He "coulda" been top 12 ATG. Now it's dubious he ranks over Deontay.

I always admired Thomas when I saw how many and what kind of punches Tyson needed to finally knock him down.

I disagree. Holmes would’ve ducked him no matter what and Thomas’ form was basically fine until Weaver, at which point he was a little sloppy but not the guy who was nodding off with track marks that people like to imagine.

Best case scenario is that he gets a bigger payday for Tyson who would obliterate him instead of Berbick. His camp was fine for Tyson other than a questionable injury excuse. I don’t think he would’ve been capable of doing much better a year or two earlier.
