Your Opinion on Roy Jones Chin

He had a good chin. When he was 35 he got kod by Tarver and he was never the same. from then on his punch resistance was very diminished. All the punches ive ever seen him hurt from were to the temples or higher so I think its one of the lobes of his brain that was damaged by the tarver ko, not his chin. Sadly thats his brains way of telling him it cant take anymore. But anyone who thinks he had a glass jaw in his prime doesnt know what theyre talking about.

 

I THINK ROY'S CHIN FITS PERFECTLY WITH THE REST OF HIS FACE.

Not too curvy, not too edgy.

A. No it certainly was not glass, he had an average chin. Glass chin is Amir Khan. He is past his prime, reflexes have slowed down by 35 years old etc...

C. Not sure but I think Eddie Futch, said something like roy Jones doesn't like to be hit on the chin at all.

 

I think this is generally correct. Jones was someone who probably had an adequate chin for most of his career - although with his skills, it was hard to tell. It IS pretty clear however that his punch resistance went south quickly after he was stopped by Tarver.

Whether your theory is correct or whether it's just age-related, I cannot say. There can be NO disputing, however, that whatever sort of chin Jones had before Tarver, he has one of the worst glass jaws in the sport now.

 

there was this documentary about him it had emanuel stweard in there and he talked about Roy coming down from HW and that not only coming down that weight which weakened him but the two quick knockouts he suffered from Tarver and Johnson and something about how they affect your chin somehwere along the lines of that... its in a tribute video of his just go youtube and type gorillaproductions roy jones jr tribute its two parts so be sure to check both out

 

He got hit a few times against B-Hop and a few other fighters in his youth and prime, he never looked rattled and often just pounced back with his own lethal combinations.

I think age, combined with the severe body change he went through when going up and back down robbed him a bit, also being hit by Tarver flush and then Johnson probably made the damage stick.

I said in 2001 that Hopkins and Tarver would beat him him, no doubt. I saw that Roy was in bad position a lot.. his head and chin were always right there. But Roy had Tyson type mystique.. his opponents were done before they even entered the ring.. they were afraid to hit him for fear of getting hit back. I knew that if any fighter could get beyond the mystique (and Hopkins surely would have, by a '99-'00 rematch.. ditto Tarver), it was lights out Roy. :deal His chin and head were nearly always RIGHT THERE (unless he was running around the ring, of course).. STILL ARE.

Montell did good in the first fight, getting beyond the Roy mystique, and then came into the rematch like Spinks against Tyson.

You said Tarver would beat Jones in 2001? LOL you ****in liar, you probably didn't even know of Antonio in 2001. Tarver didn't even beat any credible name by 2001 and you would say he would beat Roy Jones then? Ya man you are a liar.

Agreed. I speak from personal experience when I tell you that dramatic fluctuation in weight will reek havoc on your stamina and your punch resistance. Roy Jones cemented his legacy by capturing a Heavyweight title. However, I often wonder what would have been if RJJ NEVER made the leap. I bet he could have continued his dominance at SMW for another decade.

jones was supposed to fight tarver in sept of 2000 but tarver lost his first fight with harding. jones went on to fight harding instead. harding gave him some trouble early in a boring fight and then retired due to a torn biceps. tarver would have not beat jones then imo. it took tarver two tries on a post-heavy jones.
