Lets say he takes the rest of the year off, and the next fight is the last, what should be next? If we take a look at the list Lucian Bute(22-0), Carl Froch(22-0), Denis Inkin(32-0) - The undefeated up and coming 168'ers : Nothing really interesting for Calzaghe, dosen't draw that much, he is a major favorite and dosent really solidify his legacy. Chad Dawson(26-0), Adrian Diaconu(25-0) - The undefeated up and coming 175'ers : Same as above, high risk, no rewards finance and legacy wise. Roy Jones JR(52-4) - The LHW vet : I would like to see, and it would draw big money, some recognition and publicity, but not THAT much for his legacy. People would go ''damn Calzaghe is good'', but for his entire legacy, it really dosent bring that much. It would be purely a $$$ move. Kelly Pavlik(33-0) - The ''under your class weight'' champ - The fight most would like to see. Would bring a really good amount of cash, solidify his legacy. Problem? Kelly already has 1 fight lined up, and the middleweight class still has some good prospects in Abraham and the winner of Sylvester/Sturm. Also, is kelly willing to go up to 168? because Calzaghe has never went down to 160, and i dont see him doing that for his last fight. Also Pavlik would come in as the underdog vs Calzaghe, and it would be a very big risk to a potentially great career that Kelly is building. Overall Pavlik vs Calzaghe is the best of the choices, but i believe its really in the hands of Pavlik; is he willing to take the risk? Only time will tell.
Pavlik is the best fight in terms of legacy...but from what iv gathered in recent interviews Kelly isnt ready to move up yet.
Lucian Bute and Pavlik.. Rather not fight Roy Jones, cause it'll be just like the BHop fight.. Let's see Calzaghe fight someone who isn't over 40..
