That would have been the time when Tim deserved the rematch. Prime for prime,Holmes always beats Witherspoon. Around 1984,providing Tim's in top shape, the ageing Holmes would lose.
Jack Johnson, first negro to win the title without connections. could KO a man from a sitting position with one punch while removing his teeth
I wasnt familiar with that. I read that public opinion was that Jack had thrown the fight, that his hands were up in front of his eyes to keep the sun out how long did it last, 26 rounds? that means Jack gave a good account of himself the knockout I was speaking of was the Ketchel fight, supposedly a friendly exhibition until Stan took advantage. then the fight became real and resulted in casualties. Down went Jack and up came his fist to meet Stan as there was no rule in those days. I read about it in a magazine titled greatest fights in history. I'm not sure if I still have it
I gotta go with holyfield. He was Never a real heavyweight but fought like one no doubt. He showed balls and courage against tyson which no one had given him a chance. Guy was tough as nails.
Holy for me too. His conditioning was incredible. His confidence and self belief an example to all who fear the unknown. He beat the man who beat the man. Fought boxers, brawlers, punchers, older guys, younger guys, taller guys and shorter guys and almost everyone in between. Went up against those others feared. Repeatedly faced the two super-dreadnoughts, Bowe and Lewis. Shook off defeats got back in line and began again. Was written off before he was a heavy and several times along the way. I can't think any man would have been happy to see him on the other side of the ring knowing a hard nights work was ahead. Many faults in and out of the ring for sure, but I never said he was perfect....just my favourite.
BIG George Foreman!!!!!!!! He top wins are few and far between, but those few are one of the best wins in heavyweight history! Both were upsets too! His second round destruction of undisputed undefeated and all time great Joe Frazier in Kingston was a sight to behold, and his come from behind KO of undefeated lineal champion Michael Moorer twenty years after he achieved was one of the greatest accomplishments in heavyweight history!!
His performsnce and anhillation of a prime Ken Norton was like a he-lion vs an antelope. One of my favorite ko's of all time....love that fight.
That too! I remember the commentary, I forgot who it is saying that Foreman was not the Foreman that destroyed Frazier! Right before he dropped Norton!! That was sweet!!
Tyson by talent(He's the youngest heavyweight world champion ever.Seemingly this record unbeatabl) and good wins(muscular, unbeaten 6'5 reigning champion Tucker,Unbeaten olympic champion Biggs, muscle man reignig champion Smith.Only Tyson could knock the tall Holmes out etc.Lennox Lewis, holyfield, klitschkos NEVER knocked tall ATG out by power in pro.The 21 years old unexperienced Tyson did this easily. -And W. klitschko(muhaha) because he's so ridicolous. He never beat a good fighter but he's a typical old fighter opponent. Some wladimir klitschko opponents' age was:Mercer 41,Botowamungu 40,Tony Thompson 40(rematch version),Mormeck 39,C.Sanders and Vujecic 37,d.Williamson,Nicholson,Wills,Wingfield,Pritchard,Rahman,Austin,Tony Thompson(first fight version) 36.(Haha what an "impressive " list ! Plus I really like w.klitschko-C.Sanders fight. The 37 years old fat a weak bum Sanders destroyed him easily and w.klitschko produced some unforgettable funny falls.
My second of course is Wladimir Klitschko. And the funny thing is, if he weren't knocked out by Sanders and Brewster, I won't be as impressed. Why? Because of the way he rebuilt himself, and the way he changed his style. Others would have been put on an irreversible downward spiral. Hell, his own brother was telling to retire! That in me showed something deep inside of him--the determination to succeed despite the setbacks, the fact that everyone including his own brother wrote him off, the fact that in 2004 no one was giving him a chance. The only one who thought he could rebuild, and be the best heavyweight for eight years, be the lineal chamption, and be on the way to be the undisputed champion was Wladimir himself, and Emanuel Steward. And he didn't simply just go there and not change a thing to what he was doing. He adapted. He changed his style. It would be boring, and many people would be put off, but it was extremely effective, and made sure that what happened to him never happens again. Ten years ago, everyone would laugh if you said Wladimir Klitschko would have a historic reign of eight years, defeat most heavyweights of note not of his own family, not get knocked down even once after the first Peter fight, and be in almost everyone's top 20 all time heavyweights, many people's top 15, and even some people's top ten. Ten year ago, I said he would be lucky to be top 100, and he would be brutally knocked out within a year or so and that he should retire. Hindsight says I was a fool!
