I've been working on it, but the main problem for me is that I have no rythm. I suck at dancing, and my feet aren't very coordinated. My footwork has definately improved from what it used to be, but the fact of the matter is, I will never be able to move half as good as what Larry was able to. I'm the type of fighter where they have to cut the ring off, bully the person around, and work the body so they don't move as much.

well dont worry too much about the fleet ness and silkiness of footwork make sure its balanced and effective. But if your cutting of the ring you go to be clever and a jab even a 10th of larry holmes will serve you well

I could practice my entire life and never have the jab of him, he just had a god given talent to jab. I throw my jab a lot though, it's not always used to set stuff up either, I can use it to hurt the other guy. I'm fortunate that I hit pretty hard, because my handspeed is average at best, same with my reflexes, my footwork is attrocious, head movement could use some work, but so far I've taken some really hard shots and never went down, and I am the stronger person in the ring most of the time.

I wish I could move better, it seems like it's less painful. Larry taught me how/when a good time to feint a jab is, then quick sneak an uppercut in. He also taught me how to land the jab when the other guy is awkward and has good head movement.

Holmes moaned and moaned about not getting recognition back in the 1980's. I hate how he totally brings down Lewis's greatness as a fighter when he was faced with the same scenario in the 1990's.

Could you please share some of these complementary remarks you may remember?

I tell you again what a privilege you have being able to train at Larry's gym. If I ever have a chance to be in the area, before seeing the sights in Philly or even NYC, I will plan some three days to hang with the champ.

And, could you please elaborate on Larry's pointers on the jab? Anything at all! Talk about learning from the best!

    Thanks.

I have a lot of respect for Holmes but he must take some responsibility for his lack of recognition.

If he wanted the recognition more than the money he could have gone after the most dangerous challengers available.

The fighters who do get recognition as greats often get it because they go after the most dangerous challengers.
