    Holmes
    Whitaker
    Hagler
    Hearns
    Sturm

Sturm as a fighter looks out of place here perhaps but his jab is truly excellent. A piston.

Where should we put Winky Wright ? He had that tight high guard, and he kept shooting that nice, straight jab behind that tight defense. Not especially hard and blindingly fast. But, damn it was effective...

Well, you can tie him with one of your top 5 like I did with Liston/Buchanan

Mag, I trained my son at Goody Petronelli`s gym. Goody was awesome ! He taught us this punch that he named the `Willie Monroe` punch. It starts out like a jab, but Hagler would turn his wrist and twist upward at the last moment, so that it would split the gloves and land like an uppercut. And he did in fact leap in with it at times, he started the finish of Caveman Lee with it. We had a whole gym full of up and comers, working on the `Willie` in the gym !!

    Some underrated jabs:

John Conteh - never forget his performance against Yaqui Lopez with the jab

Yaqui Lopez - not too shabby of an implement himself

Willie Pastrano - already mentioned - it was so fluid

Luis Rodriguez - same gym as Pastrano, they taught them well

Duane Thomas - delivered in 'ones' not rapid fire but that was one hard jab

Howard Winstone - trained by Eddie thomas, same ttrainer as Buchanan, he obviously stressed the jab

Danny Lopez - I always thought the Lopez jab was more of a point getter/setup for the right, however, a couple of guys I recently spoke to who sparred with lopez looked at me with wide eyes and said, "Oh, no, getting jabbed by Danny was like a two by four poking you."

Carlos Ortiz - Everything he did, box, bang, began and ended with that jab.

Alexis Arguello - like a razor.

Can you please tell me more? He's probably my favourite Feather along Sanchez but I've never heard from an opponent what his power was like. He never seemed to put much behind the jab.

To quote Jimmy Braddock, "when Joe Louis hit you with a left jab, it felt like a light bulb exploding in your face "...Louis had the most hurting left jab ever...Not a pattycake jab..

Willie Pep would often shoot 5 or more jabs in your kisser in succession....

Tommy Loughran's number 1. And everybody else is fighting for second place.

Carlos Monzon always had a very good, effective jab...not as fast or as artistic as some of the others, but hypnotic kind of and terribly effective nonetheless.
